Could it be a Gall Bladder problem?

Hello,

I was diagnosed with a small Hiatia Hernia and GERD 2 months ago. I had been suffering with Acid Reflux off and on since November 2006 but nothing like what I've experienced the past 2 months.

I've had the scope done down my throat in August and my Gastro Specialist assured me he saw nothing serious. I've had two abdominal ultrasound done - one in August and a second last week. Neither ultrasound showed any problems with my Gall Bladder, Liver etc. Also, I had a HIDA Scan completed last week. Same results...it showed by Gall Bladder is functioning at 96% which I was told is good.

I've tried Prevacid, Zantac, Carafate, Dispas, Prilosec, Nexium and Reglan but haven't found any relief.

At this point, I have absolutely no appetite and am miserable after eating almost anything. In addition to the heartburn and burping, I have a constant, uncomfortable pressure under my right rib cage and tenderness in that area.

My Gastro Specialist says it is IBS. I'm getting a second opinion next week from another specialist at Vanderbilt University.

Anyone have any ideas? Could it be H. Pylori or a Gall Bladder problem (even though my test don't indicate one)?

I'm beginning to feel a bit panicked since I'm feeling so crummy which is out of the ordinary for me. I've never has digestive problems and am anxious to start feeling better again.

Thanks....

Re: Could it be a Gall Bladder problem?

Hi suzygirl,

Im sorry you are feeling bad. It sounds like you have my symptoms also. It very well can be IBS, or maybe part of it is IBS. I was diagnosed with IBS about 3 years ago. If you read my previous posts, you'll see I have had very little appetite, throat problems, acid reflux and then IBS issues as well for about 3-4 weeks. I was good for about 5 days and then it can back. My doctors have looked at me like I was crazy when I explained to them how I felt and told me I should not worry. I have another appointment this Tuesday.

Are you like me and always worry about things? Have you had any blood work done for H. Pylori? I thought maybe I had an ulcer, but I think they do not cause throat problems. Keep me updated and I know its hard but try to keep your mind off it and get lots of rest!

Re: Could it be a Gall Bladder problem?

Hi Gar,

Thanks so much for your reply. I haven't had a blood test done yet for H. Pylori - hope to get that completed this week when I see my new Gastro Specialist.

With your IBS, do you have an uncomfortable pressure under your right rib cage? - like all of the time. Mine seems to increase after eating.

Let me know when you get a chance. Thanks again and I hope you are feeling better. Take care....suzygirl

Re: Could it be a Gall Bladder problem?

Actually I really dont have any pain. I do feel like a nausea/weakness (hard to explain) in my chest area and sometimes in my stomach, but I still have hunger pains which I do not understand. I also have like this gagging feeling in my throat and constant throat clearing. The thing is I know IBS is involved because for about 2-3 weeks I had bowel movements right when I got out of bed in the morning. RIght now I feel a little sick, but not as bad as I did two weeks ago. I feel like I am slowly improving.
.
If you had a scope already, I think your GI would have saw something when he did it. IF you have a hiatal hernia, this could be causing it. Are you on amy medicines?

If you need anyone to talk to let me know! I totally understand that its better to talk about it and how you feel!

Re: Could it be a Gall Bladder problem?

I almost have the same symptoms as you, especially the discomfort right below the right rib cage.

I had a scope last year and everything looked fine.

I suffered a few panic attacks recently. It's weird, I have hypoglecemic like symptoms even though I'm not (got a glucose test).

Hang in there and try to do a lot of relaxing activities. I'm starting yoga and meditation.

Then off to a vacation to Hawaii
