Adult ADD/Ritalin LA Not Working

Hi. I am new to these boards and to ADD (adult). I was just diagnosed and put on Ritalin LA 20mg once a day. So far all I notice is the ability to focus for a short time in the morning and then nothing.... or it seems more like I zone out and can not get re-focused. I have only been taking this for a week, which I know is a short time, but I was hoping for better results. Has anyone had this type of result with Ritalin LA? An advice is appreciated!!!!

Yes, I have had similar response.

What to do?

You probably will do much better taking a small dose of immediate release methylphenidate about every two hours through out the day.

Talk to your doctor about it. Be forewarned that unless you are seeing with a psychiatrist well-versed in ADHD, doc will not believe/understand your response. Your response is not all that unusual but it is poorly documented.

I doubt if you'll experience any improvement over time sticking with the Rit LA.

Re: Adult ADD/Ritalin LA Now Working

Thanks addprogrammer. I called my doc this morning, she does specialize in ADD which is why I went to her. She did increase my dose for the next week to see if that helps. I guess time will tell. I have read a lot about people having great luck with Adderall, have you ever taken Adderall? Thanks again.

P.S. In my subject line I meant to say Ritalin LA NOT working, not NOW working, oops.

lnyny,

Adderall is more powerful and longer acting.

If you experience the same problem with a higher dose of Rit LA or if the problem intensifies, switching to Adderall will not help.

Let me know how it goes after about a week.
