Re: Burning tongue

I've been using the baking soda that was recommended. It works most of the time, I brush my teeth with it in the morning and night and then swish it around my mouth before spitting it out. When the GERD gets bad, like today it doesn't help, my tongue feels almost numb.

I am new to the board so not sure how best to post new thread. I have suffered from a sore tongue since I visited my dentist last September. I have since seen him 6 times, had a crown put on one tooth, I have seen an ENT once and 2 different Oral Surgeons. I have tried 5 different medications, including neurontin, amitryptilline, kenalog in orabase, magic mouthwash, and fluocinonide gel. I just started using an over the counter mouth wash, toothpaste and dry mouth gel. I am at wits end with the awful and very localized pain. It gets worse as the day goes on and wakes me up at night. My most recent oral surgeon thinks it is something called burning mouth syndrome and I am going to see another specialist (it is taking a month to get an appointment) in the hope of getting some relief. Has anyone on this forum ever been cured of this?
Thanks for any help you might be able to offer me!

Re: Burning tongue

I Am Brand New To This Too! I Have Had Burning Tongue And Throat For Months Now. Went To My Dentist First, He Put On A New Crown, No Luck There. Went To An Ent, He Put Me On Prilosec And A Mouth Swish Which Caused My Tongue To Blister. Stopped All Of That! Went To My Internist, He Just Sent Me To Have A Upper Gi Done This Morning. They Said I Have No Signs Of Acid Reflux. Now I Am Really Worried. Just Have Tons Of Blood Work Done And Will Meet With My Internist Next Week To Go Over All Of It. If He Doesn't Have An Answer I Think I Will Look Into Ucla Medical Center, Unless Someone Out There Has A Magic Cure!

Re: Burning tongue

I can only tell you how I stop it from acid reflux, if your tongue is burning from some other reason, I have no idea. I use baking soda toothpaste day and night (I add flouride every now and then also). I also avoid sugary foods and drinks, for some reason that causes the tongue to act up. Plus the sugary foods are junk anyway, they taste good but are really bad for you.

Re: Burning tongue

I've had this too and thought I was crazy. Figures though if the acid burns your throat, why not your tongue.
