Question Advice Please~ Both feet at same time?

I am scheduled to have bunionectomy and hammer toe surgery on both feet in a couple of weeks. I am now second guessing this decision. I have heard such horror stories with just one bunionectomy. Has anybody ever done this? Am I foolish to follow my surgeon's advice to do both? What I have heard is that if you only have one done, you're not likely to go back a second time!

On the "foot problems" board, there are a lot of people who've had those surgeries. You might want to read some of their experiences.

Anybody can answer him directly?

Not sure if this will help or not. I just had my left foot done a little over two weeks ago - bunionectomy with osteotomy. I'm in a hard cast until Monday, and will "graduate" to a walking boot. After going through one, I would most likely have two separate surgeries. It depends on how much independence you want to maintain. The first 3 days after my surgery were the worst - ice and elevation, more ice and elevation. Plenty of pain meds. I was fortunate and by the 4th day I was only on Ibuprofen. By the 5th day I didn't need anything. It IS hard to get around in a cast/crutches - I just couldn't imagine having both at the same time. It's true that it's "over with" all at once, but after going through it and knowing what to expect, I'd do it again for my right foot if needed.

Re: Advice Please~ Both feet at same time?

My husband had both feet done at the same time. He was glad to get it all over with and not have to go through it again. Of course, I was there to take care of him, so all he had to do was lay around. If he had to do it again, he says he'd still do both at the same time.
