I wouldn't take a diuretic. Depending on what type of allergic reaction you have to sulfa, you would need either an antihistamine or a steroid.

Re: what diuretic should i take if allergic to sulfa

I am allergic to sulfa and I can take Hydroclorathyiazide (HCTZ).

I don't take it every day though... just when I really need it. I asked my cardiologist about it and he said most people that are allergic to sulfa can tolerate hctz.

Consult with your physician first of course, but for me, it is ok.

I am allergic to sulfa but have successfully taken Hydroclorathyiazide (HCTZ) for many years with no problem

I'm allergic to sulfa and can take spironalactone (aldactone generic). I haven't taken it in a long time though. I got charlie horses the last time i took it! Your doctor should be able to tell you what you can take
