Hi Amy,
I battled with Chronic Sinusitis for years until I had surgery 7 years ago.
I found loads of support from a message board for people with sleep apnea
as many members underwent sinus surgery. I'll check the TOS for whether
or not it's okay to post links for other support sites, but in the meantime
will offer my story and advice.
I have severe mold allergies, and by age 35 developed many polyps
and fungus balls in my maxillary sinuses which needed to be surgically
removed. It was a difficult process but seven years later I've become
sinusitis free. It helps that whenever an infection is building up, and
I can tell when my kleenex has discolored discharge, yellow or other
color, not clear, that it's time to rinse.
Right now you can pick up an eleven dollar box of SINURINSE from you
local drug store. The kit contains a plastic saline wash with a special
nostril insert and a hundred saline packets. I'd suggest you rinse each
sinus cavity two to three times a day while you are having symptoms,
this means about six packets. Don't do it all at once but morning, noon
and night. Follow the directions. I tend to rinse over the sink where the
warm water is accessible and makes for an easier clean up.
Also, if you have a Trader Joes near you, go out and buy a jar of
Papaya Enzyme supplement and follow directions. The papaya
enzyme helps dry up the sinuses. And if you have post nasal drip,
get some high level Zinc in chewable tablets. You might want some
chewable Vitamin C as well.
In addition, keep up with your antihistimine treatment. If you're
not taking any, you should try an over the counter product like
Sudafed. My allergist has also prescribed an antacid like Pepcid
but Maalox will do just fine.
I've had Chronic Fatigue Syndrom that's become Fibromyalgia
and it's all related to sinus problems caused by allergies.
It would be good if you can be tested for allergies. I didn't know
that I was so allergic to mold, and that mold is in all kinds of
foods like dried fruit, cheese and breads containing yeast.
So this might mean a time for you in reevaluating your diet.
Keep a log of what foods you eat and your reaction.
The other night I ate six Harry and David chocolate covered
cherries and instantly went into anaphylactic shock. It was
life threatening. But I took a dose of sudafed and Maalox
right away, and the urticaria and all the other symptoms
vanished within an hour.
Hope this helps. Good luck to you,
Poppet

I went to a few different doctors and even my allergist and they all said its nothing don't worry about it. So, I dunno if the IgA is really that much related to the sinus problems and stuff...cause my immune system is overactive and it doesn't seem to help me. lol.
