Re: Surgery

Hi Shorty,

I had what is call Subcutaneous Ulnar Nerve Transposition.
It is also referred to as Cubital Tunnel syndrome.

Having a compressed Ulnar nerve at the elbow was very painful. The surgery was out-patient and the nerve flarred up a bunch after the surgery.

My elbow surgery was termed a success and I have little to no pain from it now. I have also had 3 other surgeries on that same arm on my wrist so I will always have some issues. I think it was very helpful.

The doctor decided not to do what is called an Epiconylectomy because that would have involved the shaving of bone and with the pain issues that I aready had he did not want to shave the bone because he felt it would have been really hard on me pain wise.

The problems I have now are in my neck (from a different injury) and at this time the pain and issues cause me about the same amount of pain that my arm did and my arm was pretty bad. Some of the worst pain I have ever felt has been the arm and neck prblems.

After surgery I was told of the possibility of a huge flare of pain from that nerve and that did end up to be the case for me.

I dont know if this has helped but I hope so.

Do you know what the exact name of the sugery is????

Feel free to ask me any questions if you like!

Re: Surgery

If I have surgery what they want to do it release the common extensor for the lateral epicondyle and scar tissue removed. This would be my first surgery and I am only 23 so I am a little scared.

Re: Surgery

Shorty,
I know it is scarry and uncomfortable because this is all new to you!
DO you feell comfortable with your doctor? Feeling comfortable with you doctor and feeling confidence in your doc is something that need to have.
Are you in much pain?
When does your doctor want to do the surgery?
It is hard not to be scared even if you have had many surgeries as some of the, people on this board have had.
Are you on any pain medication to help the pain?
My elbow was very very painful for something like 18 months before they started to really investigate that issue. I had so many problems going oon with that arm. The elbow was the the last thing to work on.

Hang in there hon and we are here to support you and help you through the process.

Re: Surgery

Shorty,

I just had the lateral epicondilitis release surgery on my left arm and will have the same surgery on my right arm next month. The difference is already evident to me even though I am not allowed to lift anything of substance yet. The problem was one of years for me involving resting the tendon, then using a lot of ibuprofen, then we did cortisone shots for the last two years and finally they did not work and it was time to do the surgery. I am older than you are but I love golf and it was getting to the point where it hurt too much to really do well. I am delighted and my dr says i will be able to golf this summer again.
