Any suggestions for Pulm. Appointment?

I am finally getting back to my Pulm. Specialist on Wed. I need some help on things to tell him (as I am relatively new to my changing asthma symptoms - I had been WELL controlled by (2) puffs Flovent in the am for over 4 years.) - I am hoping some of you can guide me.

I saw him 11/20/07 for breathing difficulties (chest tightness, shortness of breath, belt like feeling around chest) - orderd a Pulm Function Test (all findings normal with NO decrease in function in 4 years.) - he increased my Flovent from 2 puffs in the am to 2 puffs twice daily, and added Prilosec OTC for GERD... He also told me to stop taking the Beta Blocker for HBP that I was on because it was contraindicated in people who has asthma....

Doubling the Flovent did not help AT ALL.....

The Prilosec OTC - gave me horrible headaches and stomach problems so I could not take it.

Sometimes when I take my Ventolin for rescue it helps - other times it makes me feel worse???

I do not cough - and I do not wheeze - never have in 5 years, just SUPER tight at times and hard to breath All the breathing problems I had when I went to him 3 months ago are STILL there and have not been helped at all by this new therapy.... In fact I have some new symptoms that I wonder if they are from doubling the Flovent (I had never had a problem with at two puffs twice daily).

What should I do - he always sort of dismisses me and does not really listen unless I come in armed and its hard to get into a Pulm around here. Any suggestions on what I should be asking for??? Should I ask for allergy testing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: Any suggestions for Pulm. Appointment?

I'm not a doctor but there are HBP meds that you can take so I'd get on one of those (I'm on Diovan HCT) if oyu still need one. Also, there are other things besides Prilosec for your GERD. And I think it all may be the GERD rather than the asthma. You need to get the digestive issue straightened out and then see what else - if anything - is going on.

Re: Any suggestions for Pulm. Appointment?

Thank you so much.

I am to start on a diuretic for my HBP and Prevacid for the GERD... My regular MD just decided that... Gave me some free samples

He wonders if I should try singulair - not sure what that is for?? He said to ask the pulm. about it???

Re: Any suggestions for Pulm. Appointment?

it's an asthma med (pill form - non steroid) that also seems to help with allergies.
