Thumbs up Re: percocets and itching

Hi Wendy

My husband and I both take Percocets every day. If he takes more than two 5mg he starts itching. They don't make me itch but they cause other side effects. Take care.

Re: percocets and itching

I thought itching was just a common side effect of opiates especially percocet. I know Hives can be dangerous. I have always itched using any narcotic medications and there was never much concern expressed toward the side effect. Only if I had difficulty breathing, swelling of lips/throat etc. Am I wrong? I am taking it right now (as prescribed) and itch from it. I would really be curious to know. I know itching can be a sign of liver issues.

Bella
PS: I read that one should not take more than 8 pills each containing 325mg of acetaminophen a/day (The HIGHEST amount). Not referring to the opiate part of the percocet at all. Is this true?

hmmmmmm....now I just read another site that said no more than 4000mg of ace./per/day....hmmmmm

Re: percocets and itching

Tattoos --- 4,000mg of tylenol/apap/acetaminophen is the highest daily (24 hr) amount.

Re side effect vs liver -- the way my doc explained it, the literature uses the phrase side effect but the itching is actually caused by the liver being taxed. With gender, body mass, physiological differences, one person's liver being taxed might be someone else' "ok".

I had elevated liver enzymes after rarely exceeding the 4K mg daily acetaminaphen, which is why I asked on a different thread if other people, who daily exceeded 4k ever had any liver problems. I had all the side effects - itching, bruising (we thought I had leukemia!), shallow breathing (thought asthma), etc!

Well if anything, the itching got my wife to buy Dove soap for me and I'm the manliest guy with the softest skin now!

DroopyEyes-

Wow well I guess my liver is being taxed. Does this occur mostly in everyone? I do have a past history of Alcoholic Hepatis, no viral though. I have the side effects you have too. I have been on large doses of anti-inflammatories (non-narcotic)in the past too so that probably doesn't help matters. My poor liver. Give up alcohol (one day at a time)and the doctor helps kill my liver. Well I will only be on it for a short period though...hopefully...so that's good. But I take quite a few other meds...ugggghh. Thanks for the info!
