starting spirnolactone...scared

I am 36 yr. old mother of 2 with adult acne. I have tried every topical and some antibiotics. My derm. prescribed the spiro but i am very nervous to take any new medications. I am worried about side effects. I was reading that you shouldn't take it with ibuprofen..is that true. If anyone out there has used it and has had a good experience from it please let me know. Right now I am getting glycolic acid peels, light therapy and swiched to a new skincare line(Skincueticals) I know this helps externally but i need to fix the internal reasons. I do not want to go back on BC pills. Any input would be great.
Thanks

Re: starting spirnolactone...scared

Hi dh2271,
I've been on spiro for almost exactly 2 months and 2 weeks. As far as I can tell I have had NO side effects. I've even used Iprofen, as I didn't even know this wasn't "allowed." The only thing my derm told me was to be wary of potassium. However, she also said, you would have to eat a lot of bananas at once for this to have any kind of effect. Also, obviously people with, i think it was kidney issues shouldn't take it, again because of the potassium. I also heard it makes you pee a lot. I haven't really noticed.
As for my skin? Well, not a lot of change, but there could be a number of things effecting it at the moment.
Hope this helps!
Good Luck!

After trying everything, including accutane, since the age of 12, my daughter has been beautifully clear for one year with Yasmin and 50 mgs. of spiro. She was a little weepy with the yasmin at first and a little tired with the spiro but I think she is fine now. I am sure the side efffects are minimal for her compared with having clear skin. Good luck.

Re: starting spirnolactone...scared

I have been on sprio 75mg for 3 weeks with absolutey fabulous results.
So far so good. No side effects what-so-ever, except the oil slick that was my face is smooth, the pores are smaller, and I don't have the oil like I did.
I am so very pleased with this. I was determined not to go back on the bc pills, but broke out so bad I didn't know what to do. I read up on the spiro, asked my dr. and bingo - it's the cure for me. Good luck
