Alesse vs. Aviane-28

Hi everyone,

I've been taking Aviane-28 for about 5 months now after switching from Ortho Tri-Cyclen (which I had been taking for about a year and wasn't entirely pleased with). The side effects aren't horrible but they're definitely really annoying. For one thing, I have my period for two weeks out of the month now, and I have cystic acne which I never had before taking birth control. I am also an angry *****, but I'm still not sure if that's just my personality or what.

I don't want to switch to another brand entirely because birth control in general scares me. I know I might find a pill that's better for me if I try others but at the same time other pills might cause much more horrible problems, and I don't even want to take the chance.

But I was thinking of trying Alesse instead just to see if it improves things a bit. Any experiences with either?

Also, if I want to switch from generic to the brand name, do I just need to ask at the pharmacy, or will I need a new prescription? I pretty much hate doctors right now and don't even want to deal with the aggravation of calling mine.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Alesse vs. Aviane-28

I took Orthotri-cyclen for almost 8 years before trying a few other pills out there. I noticed an immediated difference in my moodiness upon stopping! I used to be very emotional for about 3 weeks of the month. I tried Alesse which was okay, but I experienced breakthrough bleeding. Other than that, I realized that a monophasic pill was best for me. I think the steady level of hormone (vs. the changing levels in tricyclics) makes a huge difference! I switched to Yasmin about 1 year ago and I love it! It is pricier for me ($40 month) because my insurance carrier doesn't cover it and there is no generic, but I highly recommend it!

Aviane is the generic form of Alesse.. same thing. I've been taking it for awhile with success. I have to be on low-dose estrogen because of my headaches/migraines.
