Avonex & Cymbalta..no more drugs please.......

I have been on Avonex for a year now and Cymbalta off and on for the year. I'm so tired of taking drugs. Has anyone out there had any luck just coming off the drugs and trying something not related to meds????

Thanks

Re: Avonex & Cymbalta..no more drugs please.......

Hi, daznconfzd. I have seen a lot of people come off drugs and who seem to do just as well as they did on them, some even better. That said, for others this is not the case at all. I have been dxed for almost a year and not on drugs although I take a lot of supplements -- it's not like I ignore my MS. My follow-up MRIs have been stable but I also know that it just might be the natural course of my MS. One of the big drags about this disease is that there's no real way to know for sure if something is working. So the answer to your question is yes but that said, it might not be the best thing for you. It's a personal decision and kind of like how you want to roll the dice -- at the end of the day, that is what we're ALL doing!

I have been med free for 25 years and, for me, it works. I take supplements, especially when my nutrient intake has suffered from loss of appetite.

Your current feelings need to be discussed with your prescribing doctor. Cymbalta, used to treat depression, may need a dosage change or may need to be weaned. Abruptly stopping medication can bring about damage to the body. If you want to get off meds, please check with your doctor about tapering off. I would not want you to cause injury to yourself.

Re: Avonex & Cymbalta..no more drugs please.......

Hi Dazed,

Personally I take meds but I'm open to not taking them someday. Like Bearygood said, it can be hard to tell if they're working. I would say that if that's what you want to do, then do it. You can always start them again if the need arises. And Bearygood is an expert on supplements, so she's the person to ask.

What Jayhawk said about getting off Cymbalta is extremely important. At my prior job,I saw plenty of people end up in the ER for stopping their psych meds improperly. Please ask your doctor how to do it safely!

MSJayhawk......may I ask what supplements you are taking? I'm getting ready to try that myself and was wondering where to start. Thanks for everyone responding so quick
