Clonazepam withdrawal: Anything for the insomnia?

Has any one found medicine that can help with the withdrawal off of Clonazapam (klonopin)? I'm currently down only a quarter of a pill (take 4 x .50 a day) but they were given me by my moronic doctor as a sleep aid, so i usually, with rare exceptions, would gang it all up at night. 1mg at 10 pm, and 1 mg at 4 or 5a.m. when I would wake up (I suffer from MVPS which is very sleep disruptive).
In begining my withdrawal 2 weeks ago, under the advice of a friend with medical background, i started to take .50 (1 pill) in afternoon, and 3 pills at night (1.50), slowly decreasing the afternoon dose. for 2 weeks now i've cut that back 1/4 , following the ashton method of 5 - 10% every week or two...
Anyway, the decrease of my night dose has caused very chopped up sleep. I tried Lunesta, which helps for about the first 5 hrs (short half life). Then it's wake/sleep/wake. My dr. said it was rebound insomnia, since the clonaz. was used as a sleep aid. He gave me Trazodone - what a terrible drug!! groggy the whole next day (not to mention the bizarre side effect of night -long erections!). I'm looking for something that will help me get a full night sleep - is there anything you folks know about? maybe i'm asking too much. by the way, i exercise every day, 20 - 30 mins.

Re: Clonazepam withdrawal: Anything for the insomnia?

I'm taking seroquel for anxiety and insomnia. It works like a charm - zonks me out for 8 hours kids can crawl all over me (I sleep in the day, work nights) and I dont hear a thing. Check the side effects on the web, some people can't take it. I've had no problems other than an increased appetite. Ive also been on Ambien which works good sometimes.

Re: Clonazepam withdrawal: Anything for the insomnia?

Hey thanks for the suggestion. I looked up seroquel and see it's an anti - psychotic and it's often used off label as a sedative, which makes me doubt it'll work for me - based on my experience with trazodone (also used off label as sedative, actually an anti depressant) i guess i'm wondering more about all these new sleep aids like Lunestra - i can't take Ambien presently 'cause it's too similar to the Benzo i'm trying to get off of. But thanks.
