Unhappy Is there a progestrone out there for everyone?

Over the last 8 years I have tried 7 progestrone that I had adverse reactions to. Any I the only one that has not been able to tolerate progestrone. My symptoms have been nausea, feeling spaced out, confusions, gas, and diarhrea? I really need to find a progestrone to go with my estrongen. Any thoughts? I started Provera yesterday and I am scared.

terrylynnh,

I too have always hated progesterone -- even when my body was producing it naturally! I am now past menopause, using a patch for estrogen, and my doctor has given me permission to take the progesterone only every 6 months to induce a period. I hope that you find one that you can live with.

I see a homeopathic chiropractor. I use Progon B.. i've never had any issues with it. It has all but eliminated my migraines.

Angry Re: Is there a progestrone out there for everyone?

I just tried Provera and had dizziness, mental fog, nausea, heathburn, and headache. I called the doctor's and told them what was going on. I got a call back a few hours later telling me to keep taking the meds. This is the 2nd time the doctor has asked me to continue taking progestrone that made me feel like crap. If I continue taking either prometrium or provera like he asked I would have to stop working. The first time he asked me to continue with the Prometium I was sick for 3 weeks after my last pill. AND here we go again with Provera. I have only taken 4 pills and I WILL NOT take another one. It's been 26 hours since my last pill and I am so dang dizzy. This doctor claims to listen to his patients......HAH! He says I hear you BUT....
Can anyone tell me why a doctor would want me to take something so toxic?

Re: Is there a progestrone out there for everyone?

Hi TerryLynnh,
I am going to post my own similar problem, but I wanted to say that I also can't tolerate progesterone. I have tried different kinds, (bio-identical),and they all cause me IBS cramps bad enough that I can't use it. I have estrogen dominance, and had surgery last year to remove an endometrioma, aggravated by excess estrogen. I am working with my doctor to try to balance my estrogen metabolism, and all I can say to you now is, I am still trying the progesterone occassionally, finding that sometimes I can tolerate it and sometimes I can't, but I also take a product called EstroDIM. If youh haven't heard of it, it is supposed to help metabolize estrogen. I don't know if it is helping me yet, I just got retested and don't have the results yet. BUT, supposedly this suppliment works very well for some people. It might be a start for you, is harmless (made from cruciferous vegetables), and you might want to do some research or ask your doctor about it.
I hope this helps or gives you some encouragement. And, you are not alone on not tolerating progesterone. It is soooooo incredibly frustrating and scary. But you are not alone. Don't give up hope though, keep working with your doctor, or try a different doctor if need be.
