Re: Anti-inflammatory meds

Thank you all for your responses! It's so hard to take NSAIDs for pain when one has GERD. I am already taking 40 mg generic Prilosec daily; I hope that will be enough to counter any gastric distress, should I try a new med. Aleve upset my stomach too much. I've tried Celebrex, which did help with the pain and was easier on my stomach, but it's so expensive. (I have a 50% coinsurance for prescriptions.)

I'll keep you posted!

Re: Anti-inflammatory meds

I was just diagnosed with ulcerative colitis last week. The doc put me on Asacol which is Mesalamine. I also have bad gerd and acid reflux for many years. I have no choice but to take a heavy dose of this because I'm trying to calm my colon down and stop the bleeding. I find myself in a "catch-22" position. This med is helping my colon but doing a job on my stomach and esophagus! Stomach hurting and bile backing up to my throat. I sleep sitting up every night. NOW..today I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and need more drugs. I don't know which one the doc is going to give me. Any suggestions?

Hello to a fellow New Jerseyan!

It sounds as if you have had the week from he**. I am so sorry about your recent diagnoses. I can't imagine what you're going through.

Does your GI doctor know how much worse your GERD has gotten since you started taking Asacol? Your rheumatologist and GI doctor are going to have to get together to figure out the best way to treat both conditions while keeping the GERD at bay. Perhaps you would be able to combine two different classes of GERD meds for more effective relief--such as a proton-pump inhibitor and an antacid. Or maybe there's something else you can take for the ulcerative colitis.

Good luck. I hope you feel better soon.

(((Hugs)))

Re: Anti-inflammatory meds

Are you guys open to natural aides? My mom has artritis, and her pain level was around 8 on a 1-10 scale. After I had her try a fruit juice from south east asia it went down to a 2. There is much science behind it. It makes me sad to see all these people suffering , I really want to suggest this drink but I dont want to get kicked off the board because I think it is against the rules.

I use the drink for my fibromyalgia, but my mom uses it for her Arthritis and it is simply amazing!!!
