the neti pot definitely helps, and you do get instant relief from clogged sinuses. But only if the water can reach it. You may have a clogged sinus so far up that the neti pot cannot get to it. using steam to clean sinuses is also good because the steam can reach further up. After using neti pot you have to lean over for a few seconds or minute for the sinuses to drain. then "gently" blow.
however, once the infection starts to die you will definitely want a way to cleanse your nostrils and sinuses. And the neti pot will work.
Additionally, I have heard of doctors doing a sinus flush in the office.
I have had a sinus infection off and on since Christmas. I have taken 3 rounds of antibiotics and the last one-- Levaquin helped the most. But I still am coughing up clear gunk and coughing at night.
I feel for you, I really do. My sister says that when i answer the phone all she hears is "hel----" and the "lo" disappears. I just can't get the word out.
If you are still green by the time the antibiotic is up go back. I am going back and have a lung x-ray to be sure my cough is not walking-pneumonia.
