Re: Finally a diagnosis, Rx of tapazole

you say you were on Synthroid? Why didn't he just lower the dose, why did he put you on Tapazole? You aren't hyper are you, you're hypo, right? I mean you started off hypo?

Re: Finally a diagnosis, Rx of tapazole

Well, I don't know if they could lower it any more. I started out on 50 micro grams of synthroid, then they lowered it to 25 mcg, at the end I was taking 12.5 mcg.

I just got my uptake scan report in the mail today and it says that there are markedly heterogenous (whatever that means) uptake of the radiotracer in both lobes. Hyperactive foci are identified in the upper and lower poles of the right thyroid with smaller hyperactive areas in the left thyroid. Findings are consistant with multinodular goiter with hyperactive and cold nodules bilaterally . Overall thyroid 24 hour uptake is 27%

I wasn't aware they could tell you were hyper thyroid from the uptake scan alone. hmmmm

PS I found out that they misspelled heterogeneous on my report, which is why I couldnt figure out what it meant. It means large amount.

Wow! I'm really confused now..LOL! I hope someone else will decipher this. I really don't know much about reading of the scans, although the uptake wasn't high which usually means Graves if it is. It seems you have nodules, did they say anything about these to you? Did you have any antibodies testing at all to see if you have Hashi's or Graves? Maybe Mg will answer you, she knows more about all this I think. When do you see endo? I mean.. he was treating you for hypo with Synthroid, and now he's treating you for hyper with Tapazole?

Re: Finally a diagnosis, Rx of tapazole

Sorry for the confusion! This is a brand new Doc for me. I was seeing someone who had me on the Synthroid up until last month when I started with this new Endo. I have known about the nodules, and the goiter for years, but no, this Endo has not said one word to me since I first met with him April 8th for our initial meeting. All I have done is gone for testing and then I got the call from his nurse... nothing from him at all! Thanks for putting up with me!

PS I did have anti body testing and it was a negative

Oh , don't worry about it, I just wish I had an answer for you. I guess you have some hyper functioning nodules that are putting out too much hormone..how long were you on Synthroid? Do you have copies of the antibodies tests?
