Re: Side Effects of Ritalin

I tried Ritalin when I first began taking Medicine for the ADD. I also sufer from Depression once in a while and now am on maintenance doses of Fluxotine and Wellbutrin. I only took the Ritalin for one day and I was so depressed I couldn't stand myself! I hated how I felt. I took an Adderall that my daughter had that was 5 mgs and I was fine, it was amazing how clearly I could think. I know that ritalin helps others but I can't take it at all. You may want to try something else but try it at the lowest possible dose to start and build up if you think you may need to. If its too much, back off. I also go completely off the adderall at least one day per week (on the weekend) and take a lower dose of perhaps 10 mgs the other if I need it.
Good luck!

I'm glad you recognised the problem and got a better med. What do I always say about meds? Different strokes for different folks, that's why it's good there's more than one on the market.

Very true. But I am totally happy-go-lucky most of the time, and always was. I don't deal well with depression. Yuck!

Re: Side Effects of Ritalin

Hi, I was reading the discussion and see where some have ADD and depression. My shrink said that my depression was a feature of my ADD and I find that when I take my generic Ritalin, my depression goes "poof."

I had suicidal thoughts, feelings of impending doom/dread and the like when he tried me on Adderall and then Concerta.

It may be a case of the right medication for the right person.

Keep whacking away at it.
