Re: when is pulse too fast?

Sorry - misread what you typed when you said blood pressure med, BB = beta blocker to slow heart rate.

Having a heart rate of 100 or higher while supine isn't good, obviously. You may want to look up "inappropriate sinus tachycardia", I'm not saying this is what you have but a high heart rate when resting is one of the symptoms.
Other then that, press your doctor to figure out what is going on. Include thyroid (free T3 and free T4) and thorough blood sugar testing. You could also ask your doctor about a holter monitor to see when and what is happening when you're having this HR.

Re: when is pulse too fast?

Hi and welcome!

I too have tachycardia.

My resting rate varies. During the day if I lie down it runs from 85-90s if I sit up it jumps about 10 beats higher. In the evening it usually drops unless I'm upset/worrying/anxious. It will drop into the low 80s then to around 75 and sometimes just before sleep upper 60s.

If I'm rushing around it spikes easily over 100.

When I take my daily walk it jumps to 130-145.

My BP is good since I started diltiazem.

May I ask how old you are? I'm almost 53 and my Dr thinks some of my problem may be related to hormonal changes.

I also have anxiety/panic disorder.

That's not too bad of a rate to have while exercising. My "ideal" for burning calories/warm up would be around 140bpm for brisk walk/run, I believe. The other numbers sound high, too, but 80-90 isn't tachycardia.

My resting (supine) is around 55, I suspect 40s while asleep. Sitting ranges from 80s-120, standing (no need to even move to get these numbers) 120-160s - possibly higher. It feels pretty rotten when it gets over 100bpm, and if anyone is feeling like that definitely see a doctor about it.
Mine won't listen and beta blockers could cause more problems then they would help - drop my blood pressure more, so for the most part I deal with it and consider 120s-130s while standing to be "good".

Re: when is pulse too fast?

Hi aether,

I'm guessing mine is around 120-130 while standing or working in the kitchen.

I had a very bad experience with metoprolol so I want no part of beta blockers either.

My father had a fast rate too so I'm thinking mine is partly hereditary.
