Hi, I am a 50 year old women, and for the last 2 months, I have bouts of constant throat clearing. It comes in spurts, and there seems to be mucus in the back of my throat. I do take allergy medication, but my doctor claims it is not my allergies. I have no upper resporitory symtoms. I was diagnosed with osteopororis about 3 months ago, and I am taking Actonel weekly. Could this be the cause of my problem?
Well it certainly could be. We aren't doctors and obviously can't diagnose you. But I have allergies and acid reflux. Both give me constant clearing. The reflux started about a month ago for me. I am on prilosec. The difference is with acid reflux I feel like I have a really tightened almost swollen sensation way down in the throat where you can't see. And the burning comes and goes. It is very frustrating and that is mixed in with the allergies. I am so sick of going to my main doctor. They see me so much for nagging little issues. I am sure next they will go and scope me. I do want to know what is going on and I hope it's not serious. You can try some over the counter prilosec and see if that knocks it out. Keep in touch! Best wishes!
