what is wrong with me

Every once in awhile at night my limbs kind of go numb and i feel really wierd as if im not completely in my body, im kind of dizzy, i feel like im about to pass out unless i concentrate on something, and lights really bother my eyes (like if im driving i have to turn the gauge lights off because it bothers my eyes). i thought maybe it was just from sugar cause it would only happen when i ate alot of sugar during the day, but then it started again the other day and lasted till 7 in the morning and it was really bad, it felt like someone was pushing on my chest and every once in awhile i couldnt breathe. i started chugging water and it helped but this has lasted the past 3 nights and i want to know why. it only really happens at night. what do you think it is?

Re: what is wrong with me

It sounds like anxiety attacks. There is a forum on here about them. I suggest you go read it.

Re: what is wrong with me

Hi- Now, Sylvia Browne, reknowned psychic and medium, would say you are experiencing astro-catalepsy, in which the spirit actually leaves the body during sleep, the pressure you are feeling is when the spirit, or you, is trying to get back in the body, and it will do anything to do so. I can hear the moans and groans from the readers already. So....

More Scientifically, the brain does emit a chemical that somewhat paralyzes you during sleep. That way when your dreaming, of running, or doing whatever activity, your body doesn't get up and run, it stays there.

You may be on your way to a deep sleep. Have you ever tried just giving in to the feeling? You may find you have a wonderful and refreshing sleep.

If it does make you nervous, and for most people it would, the more you think about it, as with insomnia, the worse it would get. Perhaps try an over the counter sleep aid like benadryl, or Tylenol PM. Although I hear the Tylenol is pretty strong. But something like that may curb your anxiety. I say this because you say it only happens at night. Are you feeling Ok in the daytime? Just some thoughts, Sherbear -38

Re: what is wrong with me

Oh my GOODNESS!!! I have tried and tried to explain this feeling, as I have it too sometimes!! It's so scary, and the main thing is (and you put it VERY well), I feel like I'm going to pass out unless I concentrate on something! I can't believe this. I thought I was the only one.

I have mostly had these "episodes" at night, but there was a period of time, about 3 years ago, that I had them during the day as well, for about 2 days. I was scared to death, as they were happening while I was driving, and I was afraid I was going to pass out if I didn't concentrate. I ended up going to the ER, and they did a brain scan (CT), and they said that my sphenoid sinus (in the middle of the brain) was "thickened" from a sinus infection, so I took antibiotics, and I felt better.

I've tried to make connections, and what I've come up with is this: they're more likely to happen if I'm sleeping under a fan and my sinuses (the sphenoid drains directly into the throat) are acting up (mainly just drainage in my throat). I've also wondered, though, if these are some type of seizures. I've read about the "aura" that happens right before a seizure, and I'm wondering if that's what I'm feeling when I get that weird feeling...but it's like it never completely happens...I just stop it by concentrating or something.

I really wish I had more answers, but I'd like to find out more so that we could figure this out together! I'm sorry you're going through this, but we will get some answers. Do you sleep under a fan? Do you have any drainage into your throat? I'm just wondering if the "sphenoid sinus" could be inflammed from a sinus infection, as it gets thickened and presses on parts of the center of the brain. Are you on any meds? I take hydrocodone for chronic pelvic pain from endometriosis/adhesions, and I've wondered if that could contribute ever? We'll get this figured out...maybe by making connections about our environments and our symptoms, we can nail this down! I'm praying for you!

Re: what is wrong with me

ok so i have come to think that it might have been my medicine. I take welbutrin for depression and when i didnt take it for 2 days it seamed that when the medicine wore off it happened and when i started taking it again it was fine. the doctor gave me clonazepam which i am suppose to take a half every night which i dont. I am under alot of stress and i have this one thing that has been bothering me so much that when i think about it my stomach drops and i almost throw up so maybe it might be that when i dont take my medicine i cant handle the stress? sometimes if i start to feel like like its going to happen i just watch tv and it goes away (maybe cause when i watch tv i dont think about anything but the show im watching) ?
