Re: Tired of Doctors not understanding

hi elisa

i feel your frustration. doctors dont listen.

i've been off PPI's for months now. for a long time i was making do by taking tums, drinking sodium bicarbonate in water, and barley grass water. recently i started taking 'sweetish bitters' (herbal tincture) and much to my astonishment, my heartburn/gerd is almost completely gone. i dont know if this would work for you. i'm wondering what it is exactly that is causing you such horrible ailments.

i've been skeptical of "natural" remedies, but it is really working for me.

along with nessie, i think slippery elm is a good idea. tea and lozenges.

perhaps go to a food nutritionist/naturopath to get tested for food allergies?

are you on any medication that could be causing your motility problem? for example, when i was on wellbutrin, i had a motility problem in my esophagus. there was one spot where large pills would get 'stuck' until i forced it down with a drink. the doc didnt believe me, then they did a barium swallow, and lo and behold - everyone could see the pill sitting there in my throat! that stopped happening after i went off the wellbutrin.

doctors are very frustrating to deal with until you find a good one. i'd recommend you keep looking, dont give up, and try to find a good naturopath as well.

Re: Tired of Doctors not understanding

Be careful about the slippery elm if you take it. I read the package and you are only supposed to use it for something like 4 or 5 days. I have tried most of the remedies mentioned under this topic but nothing seems to be working for me. I have been taking Prilosec for 3 months now.

My main complaint, besides my doctor not giving a flying flip, is the coated tongue and difficulty swallowing. I just can't seem to get rid of it. The mucous running down my throat and the thick saliva is driving me crazy as well. My doctor just laughed, literally, at me. I am in the process of trying to find a new doctor right now but I don't hold out much hope. I have already been to several that were closer to my home. The worse part is the way they look at you. I can't even get a diagnosis or a return phone call at this point. I'm just the crazy lady who keeps bothering them.

I also have wanted to smoke. That's terrible. It's like what I do now - eat and smoke - anything to divert the feeling going on in my mouth and throat.

yes im getin stressed at not getting better but i still really want to try and fix this as i am getting old and need to have a baby........and i cant when im takin a PPi and then dealing with the added pressure on the tummy with a bubs....so hence my mission to not take a PPI as yet but am going to get my doc to give me losec so it is ready there waitning for when i have had enough!!!!! i tred protonix not good, my freind is on losec and shes fine and she had LPR stuff to manely where she would lose her voice for weeks,,, she is able to drink alcohol and eat relatively normal and she has been on the med for like ten years!!!! i think she is one of the lucky ones

dont give up there has to be a remedy out there for everyone as there are so many succes stories loaded on the net from ACV or whatever.....not that this has worked for me.........we all just need to keep perserving until we find out indidvidual cure man i need a cigarette, lucky none in the house lol..
