Sinitis after rhinitis?

I have perinial rhinitis (all year round), but i found probably the most bizzare allergy to me is when i walk into a supermarket, or my work, in fact anywhere where there is some kind of heating or air conditioning, then bang, i get the wizziness feeling in my head and a few mins later my nose completely blocks up. Since the summer has started its the hayfever on top and ive never felt worse; but now, to rub salt in, i think i have sinitis as the last 2-3 days ive had a horrible, pressure headache and a runny nose (usually mine blocks up). Can anyone vouch this is sinitis and i may need to go back to the doc? or is it still a sympton of my original condition? Also just to make sure im not on my own does anyone else get a 'wizzy' feeling in the head just before an attack?
Thanks

Re: Sinitis after rhinitis?

Richard-

It sounds like you may be dealing with some kind of environmental sensitivity in addition to allergies, so in addition to being allergic to something like pollen, the mucus membranes in your nose are reacting to changes in temperature, humidity or other chemicals in the air.

As for the sinusitis, it's really not that different from rhinitis unless you have a bacterial infection. A bacterial infection can cause pressure and a runny nose but the best indicators are discolored drainage (green or yellow) when you blow your nose along with sinus pressure and often a low-grade fever. If the pressure doesn't improve in a day or two you may want to see a doctor.

I wish I could help with the 'wizzy' feeling but I've never experienced that before...hopefully someone else has some advice there.

Re: Sinitis after rhinitis?

thanks - i actually blew my nose just to check and there were signs of greenish mucus but not much. Im getting stuffy headaches every day. Ive tried clarityn and doesnt seem to have done much. I may go back to the beconase and try again. As for the wizziness, i think its more of a stuffy feeling in my head, then it congests. Thanks.

If there is color to your mucous, I would go back to the doc and get a antibiotic. Do you irrigate your sinuses?

Re: Sinitis after rhinitis?

i crinse my sinuses out twice a day with neti-salts. Then i use hot water and euchalyptus a few hours later (steaming method) and its beconase twice a day. i have still got the stuffiness/groginess it seems to be just above my eyes and in my ears. The discharge is now always clear, so i dont know whether its an infection or general hayfever- i did have a cold 2 weeks ago which the bacteria may have got trapped? Its just this groginess is driving me mad!
