Anxiety Attack Question

Does anyone actually take their blood pressure while having an attack? I do and my pressure gets very high. Also, does your heart race? I also get chilled or feel hot and I burp (excuse me) a lot and feel nervous. Does this sound familiar?

Re: Anxiety Attack Question

Yes, it does sound very familiar. I'm on a pretty high dose of coreg (blood pressure meds) but my BP is ALWAYS elevated at the doctors office. Just thinking about it make my blood pressure go up. I honestly don't think I'd'
be on the BD meds if it weren't for the anxiety. And yup, the heart races
right along with it. I've had my pulse going so fast that nurses have had a
hard time counting the heart rate. I do take Zoloft now and must say that
my anxiety has improved since I've been on it.

Best wishes,

JB

Re: Anxiety Attack Question

When my anxiety was at its worst I was on Ativan, Zoloft and Atenolol and when I had a panic attack my blood pressure would still go to 170/130. I became obsessed with my BP, checking it every 10 minutes. If it dropped to 100/70 I would freak because I thought it was getting too low and then trigger a panic attack where it would go through the roof again. Same thing with my heart rate; it was a vicious circle. As I learned to manage my anxiety it became more stable

Burping and hot/cold are all typical anxiety symptoms caused by the adrenaline rush that triggers fight or flight instincts. Our bodies react to the adrenaline in strange and bizarre ways that make no sense causing us to question what is wrong with us. I will be sitting at my desk working and suddenly my stomach jumps like someone has scared me and the adrenaline begins. I start burping which triggers tightness in my chest, heart rate increases and I get hot or cold. It always comes out of nowhere.

You are not alone.

Re: Anxiety Attack Question

You burp alot because when we are anxious we tend to swallow alot and in return take in alot more air which causes gas.
