Re: Need Help...surgery cancelled due to Anemia

My prep was identical to charlenef's. It supplements the electrolytes you lose by having 5 hours or diarrhea. I still had a pretty fierce dehydration headache, but I think it could have been worse without it. The reason why you can't use the purple or grape sports drinks is because purple food stains your colon. There should be something in your reading materials about staying away from purple foods and seeds and anything else he doesn't want you to have.

My husband did Fleets and said it was the most horrible thing he'd ever swallowed. We've come a ways since Fleets was the only thing you could take. There are better things to take. If he won't agree to the OsmoPrep which is the best, ask him about the Miralax.

I agree with flowergirl2day's advice to check with your doctor about anything you are taking.

Re: Need Help...surgery cancelled due to Anemia

I tried to talk to the doctor about the fleet prep because I remembered reading Suzie's post before, but he just said that it's a risk of renal failure for people with kidney problems already, and that this is the ONLY prep he uses. He wouldn't let me change He said it would be fine. Now I'm really bummed. What does it taste like if anyone can tell me? I really don't want to get sick off of it....

I just asked the husband what Fleets tastes like and he said it's nothing he can describe. BUT! He said "tell her to have it with 7-Up." He said it's the easiest way to take it.

Will your Fleet-lovin' colonoscopy doctor allow that? Or must you be tortured further?

Re: Need Help...surgery cancelled due to Anemia

krissyMae18--Im sorry about that. I have never heard of only one option, I was given several. I just didn't know what the pills were all about and it sounded terrible, now I understand.

The fleet tastes like a somewhat heavy salty drink. You mix each bottle with whatever it is you like and I think they = 12 oz each guzzle. It was recommended to me to add WHITE grape juice because it off sets the bad flavor and helps. It ~must~ be ice cold when you attempt to drink it, makes it easier. It was hard for me, but I did it and you will get through it too. I was told by the MA a trick which was to drink as much as you can then have your favorite drink next to you and take a quick sip. That redirects the senses, and makes it easier. I personally wouldn't be able to use a fizzy drink it would take me too long to get it down. I would really throw it up much more easily that way. Maybe that's just me. The nurse did say this drink is much harder on women than men and I believe it! They seem to hold it down easier.

There is a good thread regarding colonoscopy on this board. You can use the search box located above and type in key word, colonoscopy osteoblast. We went over a lot of things you may be interested in reading. Good luck to you. FLFLOWERGIRL

Re: Need Help...surgery cancelled due to Anemia

I read the older posts about colonoscopy and found them informative and helpful. The information will come in handy!

I find it hard to believe that ANY doctor would restrict himself to using only one type of a preparation agent. Not very likely!!! What happens when he gets a patient who has a reduced kidney function AND is on an ACE inhibitor? Does he turn these patients AWAY?

I wish you the best of luck, Krissy. If your kidneys are healthy, you have nothing to fear from using this agent. You will be fine.
