Try a new pill, depression?

Hello!

I'm new, so hey everyone

Here's a brief story of me:

Aged 21. Went on the pill (Logynon ED, uk one) when I was 18, 9 months later I got depressed. I then came off 3 months later. So I was on it for a year.

Lognynon contained:

6 light brown pills containing :
levonorgestradiol(progesterone) 50 micrograms
Ethinylestradiol (oestrogen) 30 micrograms

5 white tablets :
levonorgestradiol 75 micrograms
Ethinylestradiol 40 micrograms

10 ochre tablets:

levonorgestradiol 125 micrograms
Ethinylestradiol 30 micrograms

I've seen the dr a while back, I'm on antidepressants now. I'm getting better, but wondered if trying a different pill would help me more. She suggested one with more oestrogen, and less progesterone.

I'm currently taking agnus castus, multi vitamins and isoflavones to help boost my oestrogen, and I am improving.

What do you think?

Re: Try a new pill, depression?

You know, I was just talking to someone about depression on the pill yesterday. So far, I can only tolerate this pill called AVIANE because it's one of the lowest dose pills they make in the USA and all other pills make me depressed/angry/anxiety/negative/violent etc. I thought I was gonna have to just dump the pill all together until I started seeing a professional who suggested I try the super low dose pill. Those people at the local health departments don't always know whats best. But anyway, here's my opinion on antidepressants: I don't think any birth control is worth going thru the trouble of getting on Prozac and yet further medicating your body. So I think you should switch pills. You may need to get on a monophasic pill [one with the same amount of hormones throughout the pack] instead of the triphasic you're on now. My OBGYN told me she doesn't even prescribe triphasic because of them causing nasty side effects. Talk to your doctor about switching to something else and kick the stupid antidepressants to the curb. If you don't need them before you get on the pill, I don't think you should get on em now.

Re: Try a new pill, depression?

one thing that may help is using a monophasic pill, that is one that does not change dose at all throughout the 21 active pills. I could not tolerate Ortho-Tri Cyclen because it changes hormone levels every week. I did not get depression from it but I had awful mood swings, one second I was fine the next I was crying over nothing, or I'd get angry for no reason. Another suggestion is taking a vitamin B complex because the pill depletes B vitamins which causes mood issues and fatigue. Switching to a monophasic pill(Yasmin to be specific) and the B vitamins have made a wold of difference for me.
