Als

My Father in Law is 75 and was diagnosed with ALS in May 2009. His symptoms had slowed and he hasn't progressed a lot sonce May. The other day he told us his hands won't work anymore, he can't write and he had a hard time swallowing his food. He said it was like he couldn't make it go down his throat. He said he has only experienced it once and it hasn't happened again, at least yet. This happened in a matter of days because he just sent my daughter a card for her Birthday. We are going to call his Neurologist this coming week and let him know. What are the latter stages of this disease? Life expectancy?
