Post Help, Xanax questions!!!

Hi room, Got a question. I've had panic attacks for the last 12 years or so. I had my first one while driving down a two lane highway at night. Ever since, I hate driving, or rather fear highway driving especially at night. Sometimes I'll drive an extra 20-30 minutes because I only take the surface streets. I was on Paxil first and it worked great but I think I became immune after about 2 years. I was switched over to effexor and it work for a 4-5 months but again it stopped working and the withdrawls were pretty bad. I saw that these meds are called SSRI's and that Xanax is something different. What are the differences? I already have the Xanax pills but a friend of mine told me that it is very addictive and I'm scared to take them, but it must be better than the panic attacks I have everytime I have to take the freeway. I also saw on some of these posts that Xanax only last 5-6 hours, is there anything that lasts longer? Do I have to take them everyday? Also I drink alcohol and what effects that will have? Any replies are appreciated.

Don't drink with xanax although someone will post how they have for years. Xanax is very fast acting and is very addicting. I take it 4 times a day by alarm clock because of the last hour or so of minor withdrawal effects I get. I am on other medications also that can be working on this effect. I will not up my dose, I just deal with it. I have been on it for years on a constant dosage. My advice to you is that if your condition warrants something of this nature that you talk to you Doctor about Klonopin instead. It is basically that same and lasts longer so you can lead a more normal life having to take the drug less often. In otherwards, you can get some sleep in one session. If your condition warrants xanax only, then don't be afraid of it. It definately works for panic attacks almost immediately and everyone is different so you might not have any problems. Some consider it to be the miracle drug. Just don't abuse it and don't take serzone with it. The SRRI, serzone increses the intensity of xanax 2 to 3 times. Good luck and check the drugs out at www.rxlist.com., that is a good source that has pretty much fit my reations to my drugs.
