So what do any of you recommend for anxiety? Reading all this has me scared.

Is there any drug that's semi-safe and helps anxiety?

Thanks.

I think they should make a XANAX MESSAGE BOARD on this site. This is really getting stressfull. Xanax as an emergency situiation requires or regular dose as a last resort. Xanax only if condition out weights side effects and withdrawal symptoms. Everyone is different and some say they are not addicted and they are lucky I guess. Ask yourself, Do you feel lucky? If condition warrants then try to get Klonopin first becuase after being on xanax on a regular dosage for a long time it is hard to switch if you even can and it is a better and longer lasting drug. If xanax is the only answer to stop your attacks then you have little choice. There is nothing stronger for stopping attacks except more Xanax. Emergencies only and a last resort. One more thing that I must stress from experience. Do not take sezone with xanax, it increases the effects of xanax 2 to 3 times. If you are on serzone and xanax regularly it is okay but be aware if you go off serzone at the half-life rate of it, you will be going off the xanax level at the same time and its half-life is a fifth of serzone. Being totally disabled from this I pretty much know what I am talking about and I really don't care what any Doctor or Research Center has to say on this subject. Just be carefull and know your our drugs better then the person giving them to you. You must become the expert. Think I'll quit for the night and go have a panic attack, take a xanax and have some side effects. I don't mean to be mean, just concerned for you all. Friends we be

Of course Xanax is addictive...its a Benzodiazepine Tranqulizer. It works wonders to calm down, but NO amt..and NO type of Medicine is going to cure us.

The only other type of Medicine(I know of)that is NOT addictive,Non-habit forming is:Buspar..its a Non-Benzodiazepine.

I have had PD/Agorapobia,GAD for 8 years.I took Xanax for 4 1/2 years routinely, have taken it since being weaned from it and have had NO problem!I didnt have a bit of trouble with Withdrawal being weaned either.

You've made a good posting, however please remember that not all people will have the same probs as you with this Med.

Now I do have a prob with a Dr prescribing a higher dosage of Xanax to someone with General everyday Anxiety. Not GAD,just NORMAL Anxiety.

You are 100% right, xanax in not for GAD. Also since you had no side effects going off of xanax means you should not have been on it in the first place. No side effects means condition does not warrant the drug since you did not have to determine if you were in fact having side effects or condition symptoms. Glad you are off of it.

Just another note about serzone users. I had a nasty reaction with Busphar added to the drug. I called the maker and they said it was not to be used together because of interaction.

Another drug Metetoporol is listed as a drug interaction with xanax. I was given this to with xanax which was raising my blood pressure. Don't know why doctors don't check this stuff out before you have a problem.

for mike "I am curious. I have often heard that Xanex can lead to more depression. How does this happen. I took Ativan .5mg a day all summer and then I quit in october. I wonder if they could be part of the reason I don't feel 100 % yet. Although I did have a time where they were definitely neccesary. "

Actually any mild tranquilizer such as ativan or Xanax, or Valuim... can lead to deeper depression.

Being that they would be considered as downers..

As for addiction, the drugs are addictive, but it also depends on the individual who is taking the medication, and when they do take it, and decide it isn't working for them, they readjust the strength to something higher W/O speaking to their doctor. The individual also insist that they rely totally on the drug to cure them. If you find you are becoming more depressed or are taking a drug such as Xanax with an anti-depressive, Speak with your prescribing doctor immediately. Or u could end up doing something really stupid.
I was on Xanax for 6 month, but gave the drug up, because I never seemed to get use to the sedative effect of it, Especially when you snore during a two hour meeting with the boss. (ok, a bit of an exaggeration, however I did dose off several times on a phone conference with my boss sitting next to me... and I was very embarrassed by it too.)
Although My dose was small, I did stop taking them.. on my own with no issues.
