Hi Tweekie,
There are several great migraine medications that are not narcotics. I also suffer from full-blown migraines, and actually feel that the other medications work BETTER in treating the pain of a migraine, especially since they won't cause the rebound headaches that narcotics do. I actually have found that the incidence of my migraines decrease when I am clean. I have almost two months clean this time now, and I haven't had a single migraine.
I am convinced that my pill use actually contributed to my getting migraines at times. In any event,
I take Imitrex, and it works great for me. There are also others, and there is a new medication that has just been approved...I'm blocking the name right now. But that info is easily received from your doctor or pharmacist, I'm sure your doctor will be happier to prescribe a non-narcotic for you.
And they really do work!
Good luck with your taper...I hope you have read through some of the other posts concerning tapers and how important it is to have someone else be in control of doling out your daily allotment. Otherwise it is so easy to take more than you should, and then you're back to square one. Tapers have never worked for me, obviously that doesn't mean they won't for anyone, but I have noticed so many people who have been on this board who have been tapering for MONTHS.
There are positives and negatives to any method of getting off of the pills, but those months could be active clean time!

Thanks to everyone who got back to me so quickly and maybe I came off in the wrong way... So here is my story...About 10 years ago I was diagnoised with Tension/cluster/migraines which is very rare for women to get cluster headaches but I still have them none the less. Anyway I have been through test after test and meds. tried them all a couple of times as a matter of fact. Imatrex and Zomig and other drugs in this class give me severe allergic reactions to the point where I am having convulsions and can't breathe. Do I wish I could fix my headaches with out the narcotic. you better believe it!!! I have even had a spinal tap that left my spin leaking into my body for 3 days before anyone knew what was wrong with me. and just last year I had a total ab. hystor. to try and help with the migraines. About me taking so many pills more so on one day than another is because I spend most of my time throwing the gd things up and I can actually see the pill in the toliet so I will pop two more to replace them. I hardly ever run out before my next script but it does happen once and a while and I was wondering if all of this makes me a junkie because I feel like it does. Anyway tonight I chickened out and could not take the pain of the migraine and went to the ER for some Demoral and Phenergren and that seems to be doing ok for now. Plus he wrote me a script for twelve more until my regular doc. can legally fill my regular 80. I have to admitt I do feel some with drawls from the norco if I run out to soon but it was nothing like when I took myself off CT 2 years ago from OXY. I felt those w/d's in the worst way and I believe thats why I am so scared now...

Has your doctor ever had you try beta blockers and have you ever considered checking into natural meds (herbs). I don't know but I have heard that beta blockers have been presribed for migrains and I am not real big on the herbal thing but it seems to work for some.

Anyway if you get that script filled you will just be prolonging the recovery process and if you find that the migrains are not manageable with over the counter then mabey you should check into seeing a pain management spec. Just my thoughts because realy I have no expeiance with migrains just with abusing.

you are right to be nervous but let me take away some of the scared feeling. withdrawal from oxycodone is one of the most difficult things to withdraw from, hydrocodone is tough but noticeably easier than the oxy. norco IS hydrocodone so you should have an easier time, which is what you had indicated was happening.

i got sick from the tylenol on at least two occasions. how many are you taking at one time and how often? i will give you my history to compare. i was taking at least a half dozen at one time as quickly as 1 or 2 hours apart at many times. i am so happy to not be damaging my liver in this way anymore.i do regret it.

for sgilbert Yes I have tried the beta blockers and the calcium blokers and all kinds of alternative medicenes plus chiopratic and acupunture and pretty much everything eles you can think of and the only reason I won't see a pain specailist is because the always want to put me on Oxy and I will not take that ***** pill agian I don't care how sick I am! For Rocingham, when I take the norco I only take 2 at a time every 4/6 hours like it says on the bottle but sometimes the migraine is so bad I will throw the pills up right after taking them so I will replace them with 2 more. I don't ever go crazy and take like 8 at a time or anything(no offence) I didn't mean it like that. I was just curiouse because I know that I am dependent on them but does being dependent make me an addict?
