willow, i have tried halcion before, found it to be effective. my dr. finally faxed a scipt for imovane ( zopiclone ) unfortunately, it's too late as the phamacy is closed. one more night of hell. i still have some valium but really don't want to take them. funny, but this is the time of day that i feel the best but sleep just won't happen. the earliest i have been able to get to sleep is 4:00am, hopefully tomorrow will be a little better. how long until i feel normal?

Thumbs up

I too was scared of the warnings associated with methadone....I heard the scary things like I'd be on it for life or it would rott my teeth, etc. But, from my own experience Methadone has given me my life back. I went to the clinic one morning and within a few days I had my life back. My daily routine now does include a trip to the clinic in the morning but after I leave I have the rest of my day to enjoy my life and to function well at work and enjoy activites with my family instead of obsessing or chasing pills all day. For the first time in a few years I feel free again. I feel like I have my oldself back. No longer am I afraid of running out of pills or ruining plans with my family or not being able to go to work because I run out of pills. I never have that worry anymore and it is worth that daily trip to the clinic. It has saved my life! If you can do it without methadone then kudos to you, but for those of us who have tried ourselves and failed, methadone is a life saver!

Hey...can you tell me what happens when you go on vacation and you can't get by the clinic? Im being serious, now, I just am considering it but I want to be free of this to live without ever worrying about another pill. But--if you have to go by the clinic every day how is that free???

Ally,
There is a fellow that attends some of the same AA/NA meetings I do. He inherited millions when his father passed away. The family had houses in the carribean and the south of France. He took Methadone for 12 years and he never could go to any of those places because they wouldn't give him more than a two day supply at a time.

He finally tapered down and kicked it 2 summers ago. He said it was agonizing at the end even though he tapered very slowly but there are some people on this board who have successfully tapered down from the meth without too many problems.

He said it was wonderful when he first started taking the meth but, as time went on, he felt trapped because of his need to be at the clinic every morning. That is one of the reasons I think suboxone may be much more preferable to a methadone maintenance program.

Take care,
verylucky

Ally,

At some clinics you can get vacation take homes. Yes some may feel you are not free because you have to go to a clinic every day, but what is the other alternative???? To be obsessed with pills 24 hours a day?? Missing family functions or work because you need to meet someone to get pills or you have to make up fake pain at different dr offices....I think I'd rather spend a 1/2 hour of my day going to a clinic then spending the entire day obsessing and chasing pills! But to each their own and if you can do it without methadone and can get yourself clean and stay clean then good luck to you.
