That could be perfectly normal for you - I found a gray hair in my daugher's hair when she was only 5, and have found some since then! I see them in her brush! (she is 14 now) - her great aunt was totally gray by age 26. (thank goodness there is hair dye if that is something you don't like!)

Premature graying and hair loss are associated with hypothyroidism and should be taken seriously at any age.

Don't accept being told your thyroid tests are "normal", though, if you have symptoms of thyroid imbalance. You need a doctor that knows and listens to symptoms. Thyroid imbalance is often hereditary. When I discovered my first gray hair at age 19, I thought, OK, I just have hair like my mother, who began dying her hair at an early age. Turns out, it is exteremely likely she was hypothyroid, though she died before it was diagnosed, and I AM hypothyroid. Thyroid imbalance is a fairlycommon problem, and it is a serious one that leads to all kinds of problems, since the Thyroid's job is to keep all things balanced in the body.

You can find a symptom check-list on the Thyroid Board. Here is a link to it-

Unhappy

Hey treefrog, I recently had an ultrasound done to me. It revealed a 2cm nodule(nod-jew-el) in the left side of my neck. I got a biopsy to follow it up. I take propecia and Im only 19. You think I should tell my doctor about the propecia im using? Do you think that the nodule in my neck could have anything to do with my hairloss? If I fix this problem will my hair grow back? I need my hair and propecia costs alot!!!!

Hi unhealthy:
Yes, the nodule in your neck may have something to do with your hairloss. If it is due to thyroid imbalance, yes, your hair will grow back, when you get treatment.
We have some real knowlegable folks on the Thyroid Board. Check it out! TF
