My doctor told me that what these people are doing is taking the powder out of the capsules and sniffing it.
How it gets you high I'm not sure. I take 5mg Vicodin on occasion (for arthritis) and even though it's a pain-killer it will give me energy for 2-3 hours then it starts to wear off and I get tired. So I can imagine what sniffing oxycontin would do. Especially if you're doing an excess of it.

If you want to know what it is like to experience an opiate high without actually doing the drug, go to Lycaeum or Erowid and search for opiate drugs like herione, morphine, and codiene. i think oxy's are closest to the codiene group of opiate meds. Then look for "experiences" or "trip reports".
