Post What is this thing?

I have this spot on my earlobe that's been bothering me for weeks. It started out itching really bad (no apparent cause), then got kind of crusted over. It's bled a few times, and is currently "oozing." It's in this one spot in the fold where the outermost edge of my earlobe bends back over, and it's been there for weeks now. Any ideas?

I really don't have a clue what it could be but you should see a doctor about it if it's really bothering you. Sorry I couldn't help!

It's possible this started out as some kind of insect bite and has become infected now. The oozing , even if clear, sounds like infection or certainly inflammation of some kind...It might even be excema. See a doctor who can help get you out of your misery!

Sounds like it could be eczema or seborrheic deramtitis. I would check with the doc and get this treated.

It sounds just like eczema actually.

You can try applying OTC cortisone cream (make sure it's in a LOW enough dose to be applied to facial skin).

There's also a prescription called Elidel which is a NSAID suitable for all skin types and locations, including safe for use on children, and safe for use on the face, available by Rx.

If it's an infection, you may want to try some bacitracin or neosporin, very, very lightly applied 2-3 x day, and you should notice a difference within 48 hours if that's what it is.

I can't dx it, obviously, but at least those ideas all pertain to the same thing which is that it might be a type of dermatitis and the ways to treat it are similar, and those are usually pretty safe things to try.
