Hi! I have an acid reflux diseace and I think that is what you might have aswell. Because of it acids can enter your esophagus (dunno if I got that right) and "eat" the tissue there causing a kind of scar. People who develop a scar like that are in bigger risk of getting cancer but it doesn't mean that everyone of them will develop one. My case isn't too bad and that is why I will not get an operation done. I'm eating medicine. My doctor told me the best way to keep the acids away from your esophagus is to lift up the end of your bed so that your upper body is higher that the rest of your body. What you can do is to put a couple of pillows on top of each other. But if you like to sleep on your stomach like I do you should lift the other end of your bed by putting some wooden blocks there. This is something I learnt here in the boards. If you have any other questions just ask. OK? Dugams

If you are having that severe of acid reflux you should get this checked out at the docs office. If you can't afford to see your regular doc then look for a free/low cost health clinic in your area. Until you see the doc pick up some Zantac aka ranitidine , Pepcid aka famotidine or Tagamet aka cimetidine and takes one of these according to the directions on the package to try to get this under control a little until the doc can see you. In the meantime avoid the foods that aggrevate the GERD (gastroesophogeal reflux disease) the most. You will want to sleep with your head slightly elevated if it bothers you at night. Either with a wedge cushion under you elevate the head of your bed on blocks.

Jeena, Try coral calcium. Take one three times a day for a few days. Mine acid reflux was gone in three days.

And I'm still taking it.

Fancy, What dosage do you take of coral calcum? When do you take it? I have been on Prevacid or Prilosec for 4 years. Now I have to double the dosage to get relief. I tried Nexium but it upsets my system too much. I am scheduled for an upper GI next month to take a "look see".
