Hi
I was on Cipro for a UTI for 20 days. I had read and heard that this medication is very powerful and can be toxic. Not everyone can take it because of the potential severe (and even fatal) side effects and those who do must have weekly liver/kidney function tests.
While I was taking it I slowly began to experience symptoms that I began to confuse with my UTI but as the symptoms changed and began to get worse, I started to wonder if these "symptoms" were really caused by my UTI - or if they were simply side effects from the Cipro.
I soon found out at the end of the 20 day period of treatment. My UTI pretty much went away but many of the other problems I was having also went away which included...
1) Extreme nausia and fatigue
2) Suddenly waking up in my sleep with panic attacks
3) Fear, anxiety and intense worrying
4) Nightmares
5) Joint and muscle pain in arms, chest and legs
6) Dizziness
7) Feeling completely "out of it" as if I was in a drug-induced stupor
8) Depression and difficulty in communicating/concentrating
9) Headaches
At first I thought "there is NO way Cipro could cause all these things. After all, it's ONLY an antibiotic!". Then, I went looking on the internet and found horror story after horror story. I also talked to my doctor and read the fact sheet about Cipro and found out that it can cause all of these symptoms and worse.
Now, I'm in my first day being off of this stuff folks and while I'm only doing slightly better, I'm still in a drug-induced fog and I understand that the road to recovery from this stuff can take awhile. I guess I'm just wondering, can anyone else relate to this?
- Peace
