Talking Burning sensation of skin and scalp

I am hoping that someone out there can help me. My daughter has been suffering with a burning sensation on her scalp and skin which at times is also very painful. No determalogist so far has been able to help and each product they suggest or prescribe only makes the burning worse! The skin and scalp look fine. I am hoping that someone knows about this, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi mgstardust-
What are the dermatologists saying they think this is?
There is a syndrome called '"scalp dyesthesia" which is a burning sensation without visible skin changes.

I'm wondering if this isn't some kind of neuropathy and that an appointment with a neurologist might be helpful.

Wish I had more answers for you...
Please keep us posted..

Dear zuzu8

Thank you so much for this info. The dermatologist does not know what it is, however, did just recently prescribe low dose of elavil, which, from what I can gather so far from the net is the treatment of choice for scalp dyesesthesia. It appears the University of Connecticut dermatology department has decided this is a psychological disorder, something I am not willing to buy at this point. I will pursue getting her to a good neurologist and will keep you posted on hopefully her progress. Thank you again, I had not heard of scalp dyesesthesia before.

Mgstardust-
Yes, please keep us posted....there's an answer out there for you somewhere. Let us know if and when your daughter sees a neuro person and any latest info you can glean from anywhere.
I'll keep looking too.
