Question Anxiety

Does anxiety always run in families or can it be possible for only one person in the family to have it?

Hi Jim, I'm not positive, But I think anyone can get anxiety. I don't think it just has to run in the family. Everyone in my family thinks I have a small case of anxiety but I don't feel like I do. I just worry about my kids constantly, But what parent doesn't? Maybe someone on here will know more about it and can answer your question better. Good Luck!!!!! Becky

Hi Jimbrown,

I have suffered from anxiety and depression for years now on and off. I know that there is a skeleton in the closet in our family (my paternal grandmother committed suicide) but no one will talk about it, especially my father. I have read that depression (I guess anxiety is part of the whole ball of wax) is hereditary and finally got my mother to talk about my grandmother in order to validate my suffering. Soooo, I suppose it could be in my genes, or on the other hand I guess one could start a new gene pool and start the chemical imbalance (which I'm told depression is) in a whole new gene pool. I try not to get into the "victim mentality" but I often wonder, why me? Why not either of my brothers? I have read that women are more likely to suffer from dpression and anxiety than men. Could it be hormonal? I also think that my mother has suffered from depression in the past but her generation just "soldiers on". Does that mean I have a double whammy? But to get back to your question, I have read that depression can be hereditary, but as far as anxiety I don't know. I think anxiety is probably a by product of depression. Now I've just confused myself! Can we talk about menopausal brain fog???!!!...Tagger

Hey Tagger, lets talk! Dr. told me PRE-Meno, aren't we all until we hit the big M LOL

Anxiety for me has always been brought on by some event in my life, then time passes and my anxiety lessens, it seems to be this way for my Mother also.

Becky I think Has a good point, any body at any time can suffer with it.

Tag and I suffer depression of and on , I think that can bring it on too.

Now we are all confused

Take care

My "pill"oc just changed my meds. He moed me to 75 mgd Reneron and I was jumping out of my skin. I finally got an appt ( went and sat at his office) as I was a basket case. I'm now on 60mgs remeron adnd 20mg Cekexa in the am. Seems to be working so far. he said the celexa was for the anxiety and he seems to be proven right..Tagger
