Hi dugams,
Your cough sounds like it could be an allergy, asthma , bronchitis, or "twitchy lung syndrome"....
It could be caused from post nasal drip. Soemtimes when that is taken care of, the coughing stops.
You may want to try an antihistamine for a few days to see if it stops. If it's from allergies, it should be less.
Sometimes people can be sensitive, not allergic, to things like toothpastes, foods, dust, fumes, perfumes, etc.
My husband and also a friend both seem have this twitchy lung thing. When they get a cold, the next symptom is a cough that can go on for months. Very nasty, and on the receiving end of it...I can't stand it!!
My friend is now on a corticosteroid inhaler when she gets her cough. It takes a while for it to completely be gone, but it's no where as deep or sore as it has been in the past. She just has to get smarter about starting it as soon as she gets a cold or as soon as the cough starts. Oh well, some take longer to learn things.
My husband's cough was getting bad again. We're in spring weather, and he seems to be reactive to the dust and stuff out there. He's not clinically allergic, but very sensitive. I forced him to start using my Pulmicort inhaler (corticosteroid) and he's much better. His doctor had given him some in the past to try, but he's another one who tends to ignore the warning signs. But, since he's actually shown improvement within the first few days, he's going to make an appointment with his doctor to be checked out.
He's also had bronchitis twice in the last year.
I do hope you're able to find a solution to your problem. It is best to get swabbed to make sure it isn't strep or other. If it isn't, hopefully, the doctor will give you something to help with the symptoms. You could also ask for allergy testing and for asthma.
Best to you,
quincy
