Post Antibiotics as child, Bowel movements as adult

Did you take antibiotics frequently as a child or adolescent for Ear, Noise, or Throat infections?

If you are now an adult, do you have gas after every meal (no matter what food is eaten)? Do you find drinking coffee, tea, or spirits causes bowel movements?

I need to know if I am alone in having these problems, and if they are the result of the massive amount of antibiotics (especially Amoxil) that I took while growing up.

The gas is probably caused by your GI flora being out of whack. This is easily corrected with regular use of yogurt with live active cultures or acidophillis capsules daily. As for needing the bathroom after certain drinks.........this too is very common especailly with early morning coffee. Your problems are not unusual but not really related to your childhood use of antibiotics. If the antibiotics had caused problems you would have probably wound up with c-diff while still a child which you don't mention ever having.

mlgable,

Sorry I should have made my question more clear...

COULD having gas after EVERY meal in my 20s be RELATED to my heavy antibiotic use as a child and adolescent?

Corporeal,Mlgable gave you a great answer.
Second here is something to think about. My Dh was on antibiotics maybe 2 or 3 times in his childhood. He gets gas after EVERY meal without no ifs, ands,or buts about it. I have been married to him for over 8 yrs now and I can tell you that it happens with every meal no matter what he eats. Granted sometimes are worse than others but he does get it.
So chances are it isnt a link between antibiotics and your gas after meals. You can talk to your doctor to see what his/her opinion is on this.

As already stated the excess gas is often caused by your digestive flora being out of whack. The thing to do for that is to eat plenty of yogurt with live active cultures or take acidophillis capsules daily. Until you get your digestive flora back to normal you will have problems with gas. This is not related to your antibiotic use as a child.
