wow you guys are a big help. Everyday I have been pretty much the same, except my tonsils are still big. I had my sister call my doctor because I can barely talk, and he prescribed a steroid to help reduce the swelling on my tonsils. I'm just so frustrated right now. I miss my g/f, and I can't go and see her. I just started a great job, and I've taken like 7 days off so far. I don't plan on going back for a while.. this mono thing just really sucks. But thanks for replying, it means a lot to me.

My BF was just diagnosed with Mono yesterday, and I am sure I must have gotten it. I mean, I was kissing him and stuff before the results came in, (stupid me,) but I don't seem to have any symptoms. I am concerned because I am small and have a terrible immune system. I am terrified to get it. I was curious..... once you get it, do you have it forever? Like does it stay dormant in the body? Or can your body completely illiminate it?

<-----So worried!

Theresa15:

Not everyone exposed to infectious mononucleosis gets it. Here's an article on mono. If you're worrried, watch for symptoms shown.

Not sure what meds, if any, can prevent mono although some herpes viruses related to CMV and EBV do respond to l-lysine [supplement] and acyclovir [Rx med].

I had a bad case of mono and severe strep at the same time. Ya wanna talk about pain! They put me on 100% pure codeine. I was so high it took me 10 minutes to walk down the steps because I thought I was inside of a cloud!

I lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks. It hurt to even eat a popsicle. After 2 weeks though, my throat started getting better and I could start eating again. After a couple more weeks, I was 100% again.

A few years later it seemed like I was coming down with it again and I remember the doctor saying "well, you've already had mono, so it must not be that", and they diagnosed me with acute tonsilitis. This time I was out for 3 weeks and lost another 10 pounds. I still have my tonsils.

If you are in pain that is even remotely as bad as I remember it, call your doc and get some decent pain meds. Advil isn't going to cut it for this. And don't worry about sleeping so much, your body heals while you sleep.

Thumbs down

I had it when I was a kid, but still remember it. What I remember the most was how weak it made me. I was in bed and so weak I could'nt even raise my arms.
