Atenolol and Glucose

Has anyone heard of , or experienced, an increase in glucose levels after taking atenolol for high blood pressure? If so, what other high blood pressure medications were recommended to control blood pressure without increasing glucose levels?

This link suggests metabolic changes and glucose control may be a problem with atenolol.

There are good studies which suggest benefits for diabetics in taking an ACE inhibitor for BP. Altace is a common one.

I was taking 25mg atenolol before I was diagnosed with diabetes four months ago. The doctor immediately changed me to 5mg Altace, saying it would give more protection for my kidneys. It also lowered my blood pressure from 135/85 to 115/68, which is good too.

Blood Pressure Change, Unexplained

At age 67, my b.p. suddenly went "too low" when I'd been taking dyazides twice a day for something like 40 years, so I don't have to take it any more, can have salt again. Hope this is a good sign. I learned from the web to take some magnesium, which seemed to help a lot. I got tested for Addison's.

Evidently this happens to older people, and if the first b.p. figure and the other one get too far apart, it can do some damage. Some have to go back on the b.p. meds.

Never heard of the drug you mention in your title, and I've been Type 2 for 16 yrs. There's probably all kinds of new drugs now.
