Could I ask your weight because I am about 180 and it seems I need about 3-4 tsp of licorice to stop the hypotension with about 15-20 hc. Initally it "amped" me out but I can tolerate it now. I got really dizzy on the florinef and it would be a blessing not to go on it again.

I weigh about 120 lb and take 1 1/2 teaspoon per day which is about 2 grams; my son weighs around 90 lb and takes the same amount. You will likely need less HC after you settle in with the licorice; I suppose you will have to experiment to find out what is right for you; we monitor our blood pressure at home and that helps. One more thing- I also take an extra tsp of salt every morning with my licorice/milk. This really seems to help keep my blood pressure up into 'normal' range and I no longer get orthostatic hypotension.

Today in the AM my pulse was racing. I took extra licorice root the night before. Could the licorice increase heart rate? How about the salt? Did you ever have a problem like this? My BP is OK lying and standing 122/80. I just thought too much licorice would cause edema or increased BP?

Are you on any thyroid meds? Licorice prolongs the life of cortisol, so supposed to be taken in the morning when you need the most cortisol. Increase in cortisol activity may increase the efficacy of your thyroid meds and you may need to adjust the dose downward of your thyroid dose (this is happening to me currently, and one of the symptoms I had of too much thyroid was a faster resting pulse)

What dose were you on of thyroid? Why didn't you have to reduce your thyroid when you were on 20mg hc because that was higher then what you are now taking even with the extended half life with cortisone, wouldn't it be? Does licorice in itself cause some thyroid activity that HC by itself does not?
