I think it's interesting that the derms only spend like 1% of their med school education examining acne. I'm not surprised though. What little tiny dialogue I can open up with my doc in the 1-2 minutes that he gives me, it's obvious he doesn't know much about acne. I think some of us have done tons more reseach than he has. And I'm sure the majority of derms are completely clueless about b5.

HI Andrew,

Wow I'm hurting for the way you are feeling.....you are so young to be so sad.

Anyway I know some of your replies were about how derms don't know a thing about our problem, but I think your derm is not professional enough to tell you that he cannot help you and it's up to YOU to seek another opinion. He(she) is not the only game in town, and they vary so differently in their approachs to things. I'm sorry, but I have faith, and I think that all of us have the potential of being under control(again, not cured, just controlled), you included.

Bull that this person has lost faith! Seek another opinion! And the person who suggested Proactiv may have something there......I used it for 4 years with much success. Sadly it stopped working, but it was beautiful while it lasted.

Hope you find the the answers to point you in the right direction on the road to clear skin. D~

and the ones that do know about b5 dont want to let you know about it or else they lose $$$$$$...

there are some good derms out there, but i feel that most of them are just in for the money and could care less about us..so i say **** em.

I just think that it's very difficult to become a doctor if you don't stricly play by all of the rules. Part of playing by the rules is to ignore alternative treatments, or just treatments that they don't teach you about in med school. The western approach to treating illness is only one of many, but my derm acts like what he knows is the end all and be all of healing. This guy has preprinted prescriptions so he can be in and out of the office that much quicker. What a crock.

I think you'll be happy if you try this

Andrew,
My story is much like yours. I'm 22 and have had acne since 15. Very bad a times. I have been on accutane 3 times and just about every other antibiotic you can think of. Try this skin care regime. My face is finally clear.

1. Bactrim, aka Septra (the only oral medication that has ever worked for me)
2. Cetaphil Face wash morning and night
3. Clinique 2.5% after shaving toner after washing face/shaving
4. Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion-apply after toner
5. Drink tons of water and try to eat healthy

I think this will work for you if you try it. Be sure to talk to your doctor about Bactrim-it was the only medication I had never tried and my last result
