killer_raincoat-

Pyridium (as mentioned by Brendap) is available without a prescription - just ask your pharmacist.

Good luck!

Re: *What's wrong with me!?* Chronic, constant UTI symptoms

Hi all, well after reading all the posts I am in this boat too. I have been suffering from urine frequency for a little over 3 years now .I have had a hysterectomy as my first Dr thought my bladder problems came from a prolapsed uterus resting on the bladder etc...Within 3 weeks of the operation my bladder/urethra symptoms returned,I was NOT impressed as the hysterectomy set me back some. After a LOT of researching I have a few ideas of what can cause the feeling of needing the toilet a lot and a funny sensation in the urethra area. I too have noticed my frequency feeling comes and goes, so how could it be an UTI or infection of any type because it would be there all the time!!! I have noticed the irratation in the vagina /urethra could be hormonal and following our monthly cycle. Re the coming and going of our symptoms. Maybe the upset bladder/urethra is a PMS symptom or a pre-menopause or menopasual symptom caused by our hormones . Some hormones maybe sensitive to our vagina/urethra area ??? I have heard of many women who have had relief from vagifem ,an estrogen tablet instead into the vagina or a vaginal estrogen cream working for them??? REmemeber the lack of estrogen thins and can irritate the vaginal walls..... Maybe this is an answer for some of you.Next ,I feel it could be a pelvic muscle dysfunction ,again maybe related to our monthly cycle or stress or day to day life...Because our muscle down there can cause these feelings we have to. IT is a complex issue that every individual should record our symptoms and when it stops and starts...this will, over time help to diagnose ourselves as I feel Dr dont have the time anymore to look into things as the patient does....it a horrible road but we can help ourselves Im sure, fingers crossed... Goodluck to all and research, research and research......love debbiepxxx

Re: *What's wrong with me!?* Chronic, constant UTI symptoms

hi Tyger,

I had UTIs every 25-30 days for about a year in 2000, i was put on Cardura 4mg for enlarged prostate and wham! Have not had a UTI in years.

BUT!...... I just found out - 2003- that i am Hypothyroid and one of the main symptoms of -that- is constant recurring infections that you have trouble fighting off. Makes you wonder if myThyroid was starting to fail, back in 2000.

i am now being threated for both and life is 100% better...... 300% would be perfect, buy hey! nothings perfect

Re: *What's wrong with me!?* Chronic, constant UTI symptoms

I agree with you, I have suffered from this "flare up" since October 1st, and I am still on antibiotics. The Drs. (both the Urologist and Gynecologist) tell me that my problem is a direct result of decreased hormones in the vaginal area.

I had a severe bladder infection -- which was cured with Cypro, then Ampicillin, now I am on Macrodantin for another month. The cause of this infection was definitely related to lack or hormones. I went off Premarin last year in preparation for hip replacement surgery. I had no bad effects from being off the hormones (no hotflashes, etc.) so I stupidly stayed off them. The gynecologist gave me a script for vaginal hormonal cream -- which I stupidly did not fill. So this whole thing was my fault. I didn't think I needed it. I am 61 and thought I was "past" needing hormones. Boy was I wrong! He warned me about vaginal dryness, but not bladder issues.

I am on Vagifem (vaginal tablet) now and that has vastly improved my condition. It will be a while before I get back to normal -- but I feel I am on the right track. I still have flareups of the pressure, burning, and urgency though. About once a week my urethra seems to become irritated.

Good luck to all.
