While I'm sorry to hear that your diagnosis has been confirmed, I'm glad to know that you will now be receiving treatment. With diabetes, the sooner you get it under control, the better off you'll be in the long run.
I don't remember if you're seeing an endocrinoligist, but at some point you probably should be. Also, ask your doctor to refer you to a registered dietician, who can help you design a diet that works for you. There are also diabetes educations courses that I think are enormously helpful for those who are newly diagnosed, and again your doctor can probably refer you to one. Your health insurance should pay for at least 2-4 visits to an R.D. and also should pay for the education class.
Don't feel alone...come on here and ask any questions. Although I'm on insulin, there are lots of people here on oral meds, and there are many things common to both T1 and T2 diabetes. The key thing is good blood glucose control...whatever you have to do to achieve it.
