I took omega3 and ginkgo biloba before I got on medication and it seemed to help to a degree (along with caffine); but not as much as the medication after being diagnosed with ADHD (inattentive) at age 31 after finally seeing a doctor about my attention problems I have had since kindergarden.

I give my son (11 1/2) Coromega. Take it myself too. Find that it gives me more focus, skin is looking better too. My son does not swallow pills yet so this works out great! It is little packets that you don't have to refrigerate but tastes better cold (don't freeze) and it tastes like orange creamsicle pudding. Look it up! I get mine from a natural food shop where I live but you can order it online.

Yeah same here, taking gingko, ginseng, Omega3 (plus zinc, magnesium etc.) along with drinking a lot of caffeine-based drinks (I need a lot MORE caffeine since I stopped smoking, even though they say you need LESS to have the same effect! Turns out nicotine is a bloomin' stimulant hence the need for extra caffeine!) and it is helping "a little" also valerian helps to calm and focus a bit & make me more alert, but I'm swallowing a LOT of pills plus they ain't cheap either.

Re: omega 3

I have been taking omega 3 fish oil supplement 1-2x daily for approx. 5-6 months. I am trying to find sources that are safe and effective. I eliminated using certain veggie oils (omega 6) because I have neural, inflammatory, hormonal problems. An adult family member is dx'd add, another when younger. Is there a genetic link in ADD? Are medications effective? Over rated? Off the bat, could tell you I have seen severe manifestations of add/adhd in a family member. It is very serious and affects everyone. The attention span was so broken and chaotic. Behaviorly prone to outburst

I have been using olive oil; omega 9-monosaturated oil and will be turning to extra virgin olive oil for the increased levels of antioxidants; phenols and vitamin E because it is less processed and considered a "good" oil. High quality ev. olive oil can go rancid if exposed to light, air or elevated temps i.e.: containers. The darker the green of the olive oil-the better it is.

There are different grades of fish oil. A pharmaceutical grade has purportedly lower levels of PCB's, environmental pollutants-ultra refined etc. Chinook salmon, herring, certain nut oils, pumpkin are good sources of Omega 3 EFA. Omega 3 fish oil; EPA & DHA are beneficial so check the RDA listing for EPA & DHA allowance recommendation. Fish oils differ in the extraction as Fish oil is extracted from the tissue of the fatty fish. Cod oil is NOT the same as fish oil; Cod oil is extracted from the cod's liver-it is high in vitamins A & D; their liver toxic waste deposits etc. Don't take cod liver oil and assume you are getting omega 3. Increased doses of cod liver oil can cause toxic levels of A & D. Fish oil supplementation can lower levels of vitamin E. When taking fish oil include a vitamin E supplementation. Choose a high quality fish oil. Low quality fish oils are unstable i.e.: mercury, pesticides, oxidation factor.

Diets have changed over the decades. The increasing consumption of omega 6 with insufficient omega 3 is believed by some to cause imbalance and problems with low levels of omega 3-ranging from the myelin maintenance in ms, the inflammation of asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, MI, clots, affect serotonin levels in the brain that can cause depression, taking a quality omega 3 fish oil can balance out the levels, reduce inflammation, increase concentration, maintain a healthier cardiopulmonary function. A difference can be seen by several weeks to months of daily fortification.

I have noticedimprovements within 3-6 months. I eliminated aspartame from diet and substituted with Splenda (soon to be looking into Stevia-an herbal sweetener and will see if it is all it's cracked up to be) in 3/2003. Sugar issues surfaced in 96. For over 7 years, I consumed products with aspartame to control hypoglycemia & avoid sugar with diet change. Other problems slowly surfaced and by 2003-neural, inflammatory, hormonal, pain syndromes seemed to take over. I have gone the route of medications, splints etc and they helped but the underlying problems needed to be addressed. The process of elimination was difficult as was detection. Awareness improved. I used nutmeg & had a physical reaction, later learning the nutmeg oil is the toxic culprit. Monitoring, journaling every aspect of diet. Some reactions are not immediate and can take 48 hours to appear. How can one identify a problem or multiples if there are overlapping combination foods that are pro-inflammatory over a 48-72 hour time period? Was it the eggplant+ on Monday, the tomato sauce+ on Tues or the PB cookie+ on Wed? Eventually identified were certain sensitivities to additives, chemicals, preservatives, pollutants, enzyme deficiencys...For me, avoiding problematic food combinations (things pro inflammatory , high in sugar, or fat, things that can stimulate thyroid dysregulation) is key to control a flare-up with a taylored diet I could realistically stick with. Very motivated to try to control pain. So far there is improvement I say that hesitantly because things can change on a dime but for now, I have not had to use cold packs at night on the underside of my legs or leg elevations to help reduce horrid pains for a couple of weeks now. I was doing that like clockwork every night. I dreaded the night. That could change tomorrow but for now pains and inflammation has "calmed" for the time being.

I realized this post began on the topic of omega 3. Well folks-this is a long post & I have been feeling better and wanted to share what I have changed. They may be small and seem insignificant but none the less, has helped so-there it is

Since eliminating: aspartame (3/2003), microwave use (4/2003), taking omega 3 fish oil supplements (7/2003), using olive oil (5/2003), drastic reduction to elimination of some omega 6 (pro inflammatory) oils I used to cook & bake with, drinking an avg. of 8-10 oz. of sodium free quinine tonic with dinner. It equates to low dosage in mg of quinine but enough for my comfort zone that is safe (for me)-(4/2003), avoiding multiple combinations of "night shade" foods and other pro inflammatory consumables (10/2003), avoid/very limited cheese product (10/2003), consume doubly filtered water (12/2003) jury still out on filtered distilled water due to depleted cal/mag due to the purification/distillation process and ZERO consumption of non filtered TAP WATER (sodium is added to soften the water which is not good for high blood pressure, while impurities can cause dermatological problems etc

Happy holidays, G
