Anitraw, Boards seem to be very quite all of a sudden. That means either others are getting better or loosing interest. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be getting any better. The one fissure I'm battling has tuned into to a very painful ulcer. This is right on the skin leading into my butt hole. Because of the location it becomes extremely difficult to sit and even stand. Neither of the ointments diltiazem or nifedipine have helped much.

I start to see each of the three colo-rectal surgeons this week. Not sure what they are going to say or do but living in my current condition is a living hell. I doubt I'll be celebrating the holidays this year. It's a struggle just getting through each day. I'm afraid more corrective surgery is in my future .

I hope you are doing well and soon will have yours behind you. Take care ...

Re: Hemorrhoidectomy blues!!! Will I ever recover from this surgery????

I hope things turn out fine. I have been healing. I'll be 4 weeks tomorrow. I started working out yesterday (30 minutes treadmill) and today (50 minutes brisk walk), and so far it's been alright. It's been tough though coz I used to work out six days a week and did everything from kickboxing to step aerobics. I'm so paranoid about screwing stuff up, so I'm taking it easy right now. There's still some irritation, but it definitely is a bit better everyday. I decided not to call my surgeon's office anymore, those people are absolute idiots.
I'm going to see my primary doctor in about four weeks for a checkup and I'm fine with that.
I do feel lucky so far, especially after the hell of the first two weeks. I thought for sure I was going to be in that state for weeks, but things do heal. It's just a different healing schedule for everyone.
I'm sure everything will be fine.

Unhappy Re: Hemorrhoidectomy blues!!! Will I ever recover from this surgery????

Hi Tammy,

Hope you are doing well. It has been a while since I last wrote because a lot has been going on. My doctor released me to full duty Nov 24th (even after I told him I do not feel ready yet and needed a week or two longer). It was very difficult returning to work, not only with the discomfort but I couldn't have all my paraphanalia (Tucks, creams/ointments, rubber gloves, etc.) I resigned from my job, accepted a new position and began training (3 week program) for my new job. After attending training one week, suffering from an acute case of bronchitis, and uncomfortable hemorrhoidectomy, I had to withdraw. Now, I am jobless! It has been 8 1/2 weeks since my surgery. I began having severe problems with the surgery site. Bowel movements became and still are very difficult and I have to push hard and force it out, and they are not soft like they should be. I am taking an asthma inhaler, Augmentin (antiobiotic), a mucous thinner, and cough medicine with codeine occasionally for the bronchitis. Do you think any of these meds or a certain one is causing this difficulty. I take 5 stool softners daily, eat two-three servings of fruit, drink lots of water and a glass of juice, and take psyllium husk twice a day and am still having an extremely difficult time having a bowl movement, and it is soooooo painful! Yesterday early morning, I got up to urinate. I sat, peed, passed gas and started dripping blood into the toilet from the rectum without even having a bowel movement! This has never happened to me before and after 8 weeks it is a little scary. I also purchased A & D ointment (I remembered you recommending it earlier) and have applied it but don't seem to get any relief. Is this the ointment that is also used for diaper rash? I am having to take 500 mg. of Percocett at least once per day for the pain. I know this can be constipating but these past few days have been so painful. Everytime I apply A & D ointment or Anusol HC, the wounds feel hard and lumpy. How long must this pain, swelling, and bleeding go on? How long will it take to start feeling better already? Any furter words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. I have no relationship with my doctor. He has been uncaring, unprofessional and plain and simply, a real jerk! I don't even want to return to him, but feel that another surgeon will not want to have anything to do with someone elses's work.

Re: Hemorrhoidectomy blues!!! Will I ever recover from this surgery????

You had asked the question if anyone is having such painful bowel movements after 8 weeks post hemorroidectomy and I am one of them! I had surgery 8 1/2 weeks ago and to this day, I have never had a bowel movement without extensive pain. The only difference is that when it is softer and self propelling, the bowel movement is quicker and the pain is over quicker. I wonder the same thing, "will it ever get better?" It is difficult to understand how some people progress much quicker than others and do not have pain, swelling and bleeding this long. I have learned a few more things today from reading earlier posts from Tammy that I will start doing and they are: add metamucil wafers (1/2) after lunch, take the Colace (name brand only) after meals (and with lots of water), add raisin bran and oatmeal to my daily menu, eliminate breads as much as possible, and eliminate very warm sitz baths and anti-inflammatory meds. Even after 8 1/2 weeks, I continue to learn helpful hints from people and appreciate it very much. We got to keep hanging in there. One of these days we will have to feel better. It can't last forever!!!!

Re: Hemorrhoidectomy blues!!! Will I ever recover from this surgery????

Just wanted to let everybody know that I am soooo thankful for this board. I am at 4 weeks post op and I am back to normal. I asked my doctor today why I was hearing such horror stories at this stage and I wasn't in the same situation, even though the first 3 weeks were hell. She told me that she used some scapel, I cant remember the name and that it made the difference between 8-12 weeks of recovery or 2-3 weeks. It started with an M. It is something new and she remarked how she did not understand why most rectal surgeons were not using it. I hope all of you begin to feel much better. I can finally say it was worth it.
