Worried about the wife

My wife was recently hospitalized with severe depression and was suicidal at the time. She also suffers from panic disorder. She spent a week at the hospital and came out feeling better, along with a plan to follow up with a therapist and psychologist. She had been on Celexa for about 2 months, prescribed by her family Doctor. She is feeling quite well, considering where she was 2 weeks ago. I thank the Lord for that! My concern is that she now has zero appetite and is rapidly losing weight. The meds she is on are as follows:
Klonopin, Buspar, Ambien, Neurontin, Hydroxyzine, Paxil CR, and Valium when needed. I'm sure these will be adjusted once she gets in to see her regualr Psychologist, but are there any suggestions to increase appetite? She has just lost all desire to eat. Says that nothing sounds good. Please help!

Re: Worried about the wife

Hi, you might want to have her try Ensure, a drink with multi-vitamins and many flavors to pick from. Also, this may sound icky, but a cup of hot jello, such as a strawberry or peach flavor is very good because of the protein. Heat water in the microwave and dissolve jello in it. I drink it when I am not feeling good. Also, hot cocoa with chocolate Slim-fast in it is also good, if she likes chocolate.
I hope your wife will find one good anti-depressant that works. The total combination of drugs she is presently on can cause her to loose her desire to eat. Celexa is one that caused that to happen to me. It also made me extremely hyper. Sometimes getting something into the stomach will start a craving for food. MistyMisty

Re: Worried about the wife

I agree with Misty, the ensure is a good idea, I had to go on it after I lost a ton of weight from ulcers.
I am now on a new AD too and I have no appetite, have probably lost 10 lbs in the last month. I eat cause I know I should, but have no desire to eat & most times just thinking about food makes me sick. Try the enure with lots of ice cubes, makes it taste better that way.
