Re: help for hives

To HAAR,

I'm looking into the Advil connection. She took three doses of Advil before this last episode of hives. I've contacted Advil and they are really of no help. They just say to stop taking it if it may cause an allergic reaction. I'm in the process of contacting my doctor. My daughter and I can't remember if she took Advil before her other 2 allergic reactions. The other two episodes were in the summer, so cold weather wasn't a problem. It has been 10 days since her last allergic reaction started and she is still itchy and red. She is still on prednisone and zyrtec. The hives never lasted this long before. Thanks so much for the tip.

Re: help for hives

Mom 802, I really feel for your child. You need to get a
Dr. to pay attn. Most don't think `out-of-the-box!' Any
Dr. can get started w/ a IgE antibody blood test for a
full panel ck. (Food, pollen, etc.) Methylprednisolone
pak is btr than pred. rx. Kids can acquire allergies & grow out of them. The more attacks she has, the lower
her immune system gets & more freq. attacks. I've been
tested =0. Been to hospital, diag. w/ large Urticaria.
`Giant Hives.' Sadly, sedation is the fastest relief. I use
25mg Atarax @ 1st signs. Hospital uses injection 100mg.
Finding cause is tough if IgE is 0 but then it's up to you.
Stress from attacks causes more attacks. I was at the
hospital 2 days before surgery & they said it was stress!
I wasn't much. Dr. gave me Benadryl, Advil gelcaps, etc.
& I got worse. No hives occured during week of recover.
Drugs had brain drowsy & only had broth. Hence, I had
to research. I wrote everything I took before my attack.
Set it out on counter to see if anything clicked. Read all
boxes/labels. `It was an additive!' They don't test for
red dye 40. It was in my Jello, Advil, Benadryl, Pillsbury
Biscuits, BBQ Sc, etc. The pink Benadryl made me worse. It's even in a sleeping med the hospital told me to take if needed. Alittle is OK. Too much & I get hives.
Popsicles, syrups, candy. If it accumulates enough it'll
trip the hives. I ate broth & crackers 2 days & then a lg. bowl straw.jello. Bingo, covered in hives. 50 mg. of
Atarax & 2 hrs. rest settled things. Benadryl Spray is a
big help for itch. Cups of oatmeal & soak in cool tub will
help too. Put towel over drain to catch while draining.
Zyrtec is `slow release' Atarax form. Does nothing for me. You need the actual sedation dose now. She needs
the sleep to calm things anyway. Get the IgE full panel,
start writing/reading, try bland a few days + Atarax Rx.
It is something she's eating. Hives don't come from mold
or pollen. The Advil w/ red in it may be doing her in. In
my 40's I suffered till I found the cause was red 40 dye.
I acquired this allergy after my immune system went
down. I read everything now. Gd. Luck. Let us know.

Re: help for hives

Need to try nasal irrigation. Stage 1 and 2 of this document. http://www.***********.net/Purity/************.pdf
My sister suffers from hives & this Fall she has not gotten any hives since she has been using the nasal irrigation. I know it sounds strange & disconnected. It has stopped my dairy, chicken, coffee allergies overnight, my rash on my stomach went away, no more flushing of the face, uncontrolled sneezing, irritability are all gone. My sister was a nonbeliever, but did it to get relief when she woke up in the morning. Her bloody noses stopped and the congestion subsided significantly.
What is nice to know about nasal irrigating is that it has a name jala Neti one of the forms of Yoga called Hatha. Happy irrigating....David

Re: help for hives

supermom, Hi. I dont know if I am out of the ordinary but I have food allergies(strawberries being the worst) and I get hives if I eat them. But the I never break out or have anything in my mouth, I just get severe hives everywhere and have to go to ER. So it is possible she has a food allergy, even if there is no signs in her mouth. I was diagnosed when I was 8 and it took a long time to figure out what keep making me break out to and they didnt think it was food for the same reason. Good luck though!

Re: help for hives

i feel your pain it took me two years to find a cure for my uncontrollable skin allergies when i was younger...
i see an amazing dermatoligist, usually you can get in within a week if you push it and you say its an emergency...
a few thoughts from what i've gathered..
i've read about singulair and accolate having great results for skin allergies, it can't hurt to try that.
cutivate is a pretty effective cream, if that doesn't work try moving up to pscorcon.
keep takign the zyrtec!
take very long showers, use shampoos, conditioners from neutrogena made for sensitive skin
put on lotion(CETAPHIL AND NOTHING ELSE! this is the ONLY lotion i am not allergic to!) and TONS of it all over!
allergies can develop, use that detergent i 4got its name its made for sensitive skin
humidify the house..beleive it or not this can make allt he difference, get a central humidifer and put one in her room
clean, clean, clean, keep the house free of dust
and thats all i can think of hope this helps
